There is always huge anticipation around the release of a new Marvel video game and Marvel Cosmic Invasion is no different. The game was first revealed at Summer Game Fest and since then, gamers have been waiting for an official release date. Read on as we bring you all the details and what it is about Marvel Cosmic Invasion that sees a return to classic beat’em up games.
Marvel Cosmic Invasion will be available from the 1st of December for PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2. The game is developed by Tribute Games and published by Dotemu. Marvel Cosmic Invasion is an arcade style game with pixelated graphics that have drawn comparison with the top beat’em up style games of yesteryear, such as Streets of Rage and Double Dragon.
The action-packed side-scrolling adventure features a choice of characters from the Marvel Universe including popular names such as Black Panther, Captain America, Iron Man, She-Hulk, Silver Surfer, Spider-Man, Storm, and Wolverine. Players battle against enemies across several locations including New York City in a bid to thwart the villain Annihilus.
For anyone who enjoys the Marvel comics and movies, has played previous Marvel games or the excellent Marvel slots using a Golden Nugget bonus code, Marvel Cosmic Invasion is full of promise.
The trailer for the game looks close to retro beat-em up games like Streets of Rage. The pixelated characters, side-scrolling action, and multiple enemies to fight is reminiscent of the great arcade style beat-em ups of the past. The nostalgia alone will have some gamers pre-ordering Marvel Cosmic Invasion.
One of the many popular features of Streets of Rage and Double Dragon is the multiplayer element and Tribute Games have added a co-operative feature to Marvel Cosmic Invasion. Players can choose different characters and team up to take on the villains. Each character has a unique set of attacks and by using the Cosmic Swap system, players can harness the abilities of other characters to create unique team-up attacks. The couch co-op feature is going to be a big draw for players who remember playing Streets of Rage and means friends can get together and play using one console rather than having to play online.
We can look back at a previous title released by Tribute Games to judge if Marvel Cosmic Invasion is going to be successful. Tribute Games teamed up with publisher Dotemu to create Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge in 2022 and the game sold over one million copies in its first week. The game received excellent reviews by some of the top online gaming websites with the visuals being extremely well received.
Tribute Games have opted to go for the same visual style in Marvel Cosmic Invasion as they did with TMNT: Shredder's Revenge. There was some concern regarding the length of the game and some of the sound effects in TMNT: Shredder's Revenge but hopefully they have taken the criticism onboard ahead of the release of Marvel Cosmic Invasion. The signs from the trailer are promising and fans of classics like Streets of Rage will be eager to start playing Marvel Cosmic Invasion upon release.
