A New Co-Op Survival Game is Set for Release in 2026

An upcoming co-op survival title is set for release in 2026, according to Steam. The new title, Carnival Hunt, transports players to a haunted carnival, where instead of upbeat music and fun, you have a horror-themed world that is eerily silent. Although a lot of horror games put a focus on isolating the main character, this game puts a fresh spin on things by making players share the responsibility of staying alive. Every decision made by a single player has an impact on the other people playing the game, which is certainly going to go down well with fans of co-op titles.

The Success of the Carnival Format

Carnivals and theme parks have been highly successful in recent years. They have also found a very special place in gaming. Take titles like Rollercoaster Tycoon, for example. This included many theme park elements, as well as carnival blueprints, so people could create an amusement park in their own vision.

There are plenty of carnival games available on new VR headsets, including the Meta Quest. Interestingly, even in other verticals like iGaming, carnival games are also huge. Slots like Fluffy Favourites capitalize on the funfair theme, with stuffed animals serving as the symbols on the reels. You also have the classic red and white big top in the background, which helps to cement the theme even more. The new co-op survival game, Carnival Hunt, takes this tested format and turns it into something entirely new, with the game set to be a huge release for next year. If you can't wait until next year, you can find a list of upcoming game releases on Co-Optimus.

What Do We Know about Carnival Hunt?

The core theme of the horror game revolves around rabbits. These are wind-up performers who are simply trying to make it through the night. They run on kinetic energy, and for them, the clock is always ticking. People playing the rabbits have to try to survive, but they also have to keep winding up teammates to keep everyone else alive too.

The game ties survival mechanics with communication. When someone is being wound up, a loud sound plays which alerts the Carnival Monster. As you can imagine, players have to work fast and discreetly to keep everyone charging up, but at the same time, they have to do so without giving away their own position. As the game has in-game positional voice chat, the sense of vulnerability is unbelievable. To make things even more exciting, there are also opportunities to play dead. As “dead” rabbits are scattered throughout the game, players can blend into the environment to try and survive longer.

If you want, you can also choose to play as the Carnival Monster. Even though only one person can play this role, it certainly adds a new dynamic, as the monster can’t hear what the rabbits are saying. This makes for a lot of replayability, and it also allows players to adapt their strategies on the fly, as they can play both sides of the game to try and understand the mechanics more. Carnival Hunt is due for release sometime in 2026, with an official release date yet to be announced.
