Couples' Co-Op Night: Games, Snacks, and Where CBD Fits

Hazelight figured out something about couples years ago. With its Friend’s Pass, only one person needs to buy games like It Takes Two or Split Fiction, and the second player joins for free. Co-op night with a partner has since become a real ritual for a lot of adult gamers, complete with a game queue, a snack plan, and, for many grown-ups, a CBD routine of their own, often built around the organic gummies from Joy Organics, which come in THC-free and full-spectrum options with every batch sent for third-party testing.

Here is how to plan a co-op night that both players actually look forward to.

Pick Games Built for Two

The best couples’ games are designed around two players from the start, not single-player games with a second controller bolted on.

It Takes Two is the obvious starting point. It won Game of the Year at The Game Awards in 2021 and is built entirely around two players solving problems together. Split Fiction, Hazelight’s 2025 follow-up, keeps the same two-player-only design with a sci-fi and fantasy twist. If you want something with more tension, A Way Out tells a prison-break story that only works with two people.

Puzzle fans should not skip the Portal 2 co-op campaign, which still holds up remarkably well. For something calmer, Stardew Valley lets you build a farm together at your own pace. And if you want pure chaos, Overcooked! 2 will test your communication skills, and possibly your relationship, one burnt order at a time.

Match the Game to the Night

Not every evening calls for the same kind of game. A long week might call for something cozy where nobody can really fail. A Saturday with energy to spare is a better night for a frantic kitchen game or a tough boss fight.

Story-driven games work best when you can play a few chapters in a row, so save them for nights when you are not watching the clock. Short, replayable games are better for weeknights when you only have an hour.

A simple trick is to keep a shared list of games you both want to try, then take turns choosing. It saves twenty minutes of scrolling through the store and avoids the “I don’t mind, you pick” loop.

Set Up the Space

Couch co-op is the classic setup, but plenty of couples play online from two screens in the same room, especially when one prefers PC and the other prefers a console. Check whether a game supports split-screen, online play or both before you commit to a night with it.

Charge the controllers before you start, sort out headset audio if you are playing online, and get comfortable seating. Nothing kills momentum like a dead controller halfway through a boss fight.

Snacks That Will Not Wreck the Controllers

Gaming snacks have one job beyond tasting good: they should not leave grease or dust on your controllers. Pretzels, popcorn eaten with chopsticks, cut fruit, cheese cubes and veggies with dip all work well. Anything that leaves orange powder on your fingers can wait for halftime.

Drinks belong in cups with lids or on a side table out of elbow range. Plan a proper meal before you start rather than snacking your way through dinner, and you will both stay sharper for longer sessions.

Where CBD Fits

For a lot of adult couples, the end of the night has a routine of its own. Once the controllers are down, some like to make a cup of tea, some read and some include CBD as one deliberate part of how the evening winds down.

When CBD is part of that routine, knowing exactly what is in it matters. Joy Organics makes its gummies vegan and gluten-free, without corn syrup or artificial flavors, in 10, 25, and 50 mg strengths, and a QR code on each label links to the lab results for that specific product, so both partners can see what they are choosing.

A Few Ground Rules

CBD products are for adults 21 and over, and they are not snacks. Store them separately from the regular treats and well out of reach of children and pets. Full spectrum products contain small amounts of THC, so anyone who needs to avoid THC entirely should stick to THC-free options. Laws vary by location, and anyone taking regular medication should check with a doctor or pharmacist first.

Keep It Fun

The point of co-op night is spending time together, not getting the perfect score. Agree on a stopping time, take breaks when a level gets frustrating, and remember that a failed run can be the funniest part of the night.

Whether you are rescuing each other from collapsing platforms or arguing over who forgot the onions, the best co-op nights end the same way: already planning the next one.
