Possible Left 4 Dead PC Specs

Staff September 9th, 2008 at 10:32 PM

Everyone loves a good rumor, particularly considering that sometimes they end up actually being true. This rumor is considering a very popular game here at Co-Optimus. According to GameXtract, Left 4 Dead will have specs that open up the game to a wide variety of PCs. The supposed minimum specs are:

Minimum System Requirements (Rumored)
OS: Windows 2000/XP/Vista
Processor: Pentium 4 @ 1.7 GHz
Memory: 512 MB
Video Memory: 64 MB
Sound Card: DirectX Compatible
DirectX: 9.0c
Keyboard & Mouse
DVD Rom Drive

The specs aren't that bad at all, and my three-year-old laptop could handle the game OK, and that's saying something. Specs like these would be also be good news in that the more people who are capable of running a co-op game, the better. But reminder, this is just a rumor. However, Doug Lombardi has recently said that Left 4 Dead should have similar specs to The Orange Box. So, things are at least looking up in regards to having that old PC run L4D.

64MB Video Mem? That's NOT what I saw at PAX. Granted I played on an XBox, but that's a little low. I'm sure the game runs at that level, but who really wants to? Running XP with less than a GB of memory is a joke in itself, but L4D will require 512MB? No wonder why PC gaming can be difficult to get into.
