Halo 3 Video Could Reveal Co-Op Squad Based Add-On

Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo September 26th, 2008 at 2:21 PM

There's been a long rumor that Bungie has been working on a squad based shooter, much like Ghost Recon, set in the Halo universe.  Yesterday's teaser announcement and subsequent video trailer could be further proof.

Social site Kwanzoo has an article up from a user that presents evidence supporting the theory of a co-op squad based add on.  Among the most obvious evidence is the "Prepare to Drop" tagline, referring to the drop pods that are seen during the video.  These drop pods would be used by an elite squad of soldiers.  The user also points to a few posts on Bungie's site that support the co-op squad based element.

In this message, it becomes clear that the Covenant Loyalist invasion of Earth is well underway. Someone from the Office of Naval Intelligence is requesting a specific squad of men from the heavy cruiser Say My Name. (They sure do have weird names for ships in the human fleet.)

Make sure you hit up the original article for a more detailed explanation.  The only thing that doesn't fit for me personally, is the video makes it look like the pods are an invasion, not just a small squad dropping for deployment.  Whatever the "Keep it Clean" trailer showed, it's still a mystery, but obviously we are pulling for co-op!

Co-op was such a huge success with Halo 3 and I think Bungie realized that. I'm sure there is more co-op to come in whatever the future holds from them.

Also, I agree the pods seemed hostile since they were raining down on a city. A misfire? Was it an enemy City? Or are they pods from a rogue faction? I look forward to more information regarding this.

But an expansion for Halo3 that lets you play as marines? They would be a GREAT GREAT change to the gameplay. I mean it wouldn't be a fast shooter, it would be slow and precise.

As a computer science major, I know it's possible for them to do that. But that IS a lot of work. It would definitely be cool. Unless they make the marines able to have armor or some sort of shield.

I'm hesitant about the squad then.

I agree! I'm hoping that the fabled 3rd-person perspective is introduced here, too.

And I'm really interested to see if this will have some impact on multiplayer...

Eh, it's not that much work. Especially if it was designed to be modular from the beginning.

Thinks about all the mods for games like Oblivion and such that really change the gameplay.

I hate the way bungie does their viral campaign's on EVERYTHING. Can't they just announce something, let the community get excited, then release as planned like everyone else.

Keyword = IF.

Now just looking at the Main Menu I could see how it could be a modular design. But I still don't know what's under the hood. Even then, time will tell.

if it's like the 360 version, I think you can make a custom game mode with infinite respawns.
No you CAN play it by yourself, but the FUN is playing WITH others not AGAINST others.
