2 is a big improvement for me because I feel like useing malee weapons is easier than firearms in the l4d series so far. The controls are the same too so no suprises there.

Just pick up the classics and you'll always have someone to play with. cuz everybody owns at one or most of the following: Gears 1,2 and 3, L4D 1 and 2, and Borderlands.

I would honestly say pick up the first left 4 dead first since its campaign is far more enjoyable IMO. I love them both but something about the experience from the first one will just stick with you.
