I found it brutally difficult on the hardest difficulty. So much so that I don't like it and haven't completed a single mission in that mode. For me the game is only really enjoyable with people you like to co-op with, though the AI is pretty decent. The versus mode is very enjoyable. It's definitely built to play with others. If you try it by yourself, you may seriously wonder what people see in this game. But once you've got a friend or three with you, screaming for help when they get jumped by a monster, you'll get it. This game is all about the experience of playing with others.
