Online Co-Op: Co-Op Play is available over the internet or an online service like Xbox Live or the PlayStation Network. Each player needs their own system, game, and internet connection.

Couch Co-Op: Couch or Local Co-Op allows players to use one copy of the game with multiple controllers to play co-op. This includes both split screen play and same screen play. Couches are not required.

SplitScreen: The TV is split into multiple screens so each co-op player gets their own viewpoint. The screen could be split vertically or horizontally.

LAN or Systemlink: Co-Op Play is available over a Local Network or System Link Connection. Most likely a router will be required, but you may use a crossover cable in some cases.

Drop-In/Drop-Out: Players can join or leave a cooperative game session at anytime without disrupting an existing player's game.

The Co-Op Experience:
NHL 10 offers traditional offline play for up to 4 players. Each person can lock themselves to a player position and work together as a team to win hockey games.

Online play is a bit different, while you can't play 6 players against the AI, the experience is extremely co-op. A online league is created and you'll play from a unique camera perspective for your position. Your custom team will face off against other teams of 2 or more players. There's no voice chat between teams - so no trash talking - but there is voicechat among your own team.

Background:
The 18th version of EA Sports' popular NHL video game, NHL 10 is loaded with features sure to please both established fans of the series and its community, as well as those coming to it for the first time. Just a few of these features include extreme team customization of equipment and uniforms, monthly chances to win the EA Sports Hockey League Cup via the Seasons Mode, multiplayer support both online and locally, four game styles (casual, default, normal and hardcore) and the new first-person fighting feature that lets players start a fight with the tap of a face button.

I never talk when I play online on COD. No one really says anything worth listening to, or no one talks whatsoever.
