The poll is a small sample size but it is showing a crazy high percentage. Hopefully people don't vote if they didn't get one. From reading online, it sounds like people are calling Microsoft instead of returning them to stores (since the stores don't have replacement units available) which may explain no returns to gamestop. I've heard people had to wait six hours for a call back from msft support so it doesn't sound they were prepared for this.
I read that a patch is incoming in the next week to fix the BF4 crashes. I didn't have any crashes in single player yet, but I'm going to keep it on the shelf just to be safe.
My guess is that you are hearing about lots of Amazon failures for two reasons:
1. Lots of people ordered from Amazon
2. Amazon lets anyone write a review (even if they didn't buy it there) so it leaves open the possibility that people are posting bad reviews without buying the system.
Aside from Amazon, I've been hearing some chatter about people having TVs without HDCP. I've never paid attention to whether my two TVs have that, but what I've been hearing is that some of the bargain TVs do not support it. I've heard that not having a TV that supports HDCP will prevent your PS4 and XB1 from working.
You can extend the warranty anytime before the 1 year warranty runs out (the accidental coverage needs to be added within 30 days I believe). I'm planning to monitor the failure rate and then decide after 11 months.
No hardware problems for me. PSN was a nightmare last night - couldn't sign in for a couple hours and then the store didn't work until this morning. Once that was cleared up, I was able to download about 8 games (150+ GB) in a couple of hours. That is impressive to me considering that a ton of people were all doing the same thing at the same time. They must have really upped their server horsepower and bandwidth for PS4.
