Digital board games can be tons of fun, especially when they're cooperative. That's what's in store for Beacon Patrol from Shapes and Dreams and Assemble Entertainment. Based on the real-life board game by Torben Ratzlaff, Beacon Patrol has players work together to explore a map and create a network of coastal paths, all by placing tiles. It's a lot like Carcassonne and Kingdomino, but set on the high seas. The upcoming Steam version will support 4-player local co-op, and there's a single-player demo right now.
Features:
- Cozy and relaxing coastal exploration
- Play solo or co-op with your friends
- Strategic tile placement
- The full board game experience, including the Ships & Shores expansion
- High replay value - every game is different
- Unlock new ships with unique abilities, tiles, seagull companions and more
- Local and online multiplayer via Steam Remote Play Together
- Digitally exclusive content and game modes
- Look and feel of a modern board game featuring a clear and cute art style
The lack of true online co-op is a drag; Steam Remote Play Together hardly counts. Still, as a big fan of Kingdomino, I'm looking forward to some local multiplayer with this one. The visual style is quite charming. Controllers are supported, and Steam Deck compatibility is likely.
Beacon Patrol is targeting a third-quarter 2025 release on Steam. Find your sea legs and give the demo a try!
