Co-Optimus - Articles written by - Paul Acevedo

Iím a high school English teacher, writer, and ninja. My co-op gaming life started with the original Double Dragon arcade game in 1987. As I only owned an NES back then, my Sega Master System-owning friend used to get tired of me wanting to play through Double Dragon with him all the time. I still love cooperative beat-em-ups, including Final Fight, Castle Crashers, and Scott Pilgrim. I was once a competitive Saturn Bomberman player, but otherwise I have always been about the co-op.

My first experience with writing about games came in 2003 when I wrote a full walkthrough for Bomberman Land 2, an amazing Japanese Bomberman RPG. Over the next several years, I continued to write FAQs and Achievement guides for various games, culminating in an award-winning Bionic Commando Rearmed guide. I finally joined the gaming press after Windows Phone 7 launched, covering and reviewing games for Microsoftís fledgling mobile platform. Now Iím on the console scene at Co-Optimus, one of the coolest and most unique gaming sites around.

Aragami 2 Will Bring Stealth Ninja Kills to Xbox Game Pass at Launch

The first Aragami was a slick co-op ninja game, though the combat could have been better. Developer Lince has taken that to heart with Aragami 2, which promises improved movement and combat as well as 3-player online co-op. The game is due out on September 17. Even better for Xbox fans, it will be launch on Xbox Game Pass as well. Araga...

SEGA and Amplitude Studios' ENDLESS universe consists of multiple games such as Endless Space and Dungeon of the Endless. The next game in the series will be ENDLESS Dungeon, which is totally a different game than Dungeon of the Endless. Fantasy tower defense series finally returning to console

Orcs Must Die! 3 Will Escape to Consoles and PC on July 23

When Robot Entertainment released Orcs Must Die! 3 out of nowhere last year, the news was bittersweet. Many of us were glad to see a new game in the co-op action-tower defense series but less excited about it being a Stadia exclusive. Thankfully, it was only a timed exclusive, and Orcs Must Die! 3 will now be coming to Xbox, PlayStation, and Steam in July.

Team up to cut down trees and harvest dinosaur eggs, why not?

Delightful Co-Op Lumberjack Game 'Lumberhill' Comes to Steam

First announced last year, the hectic lumberjack party game Lumberhill is now available on Steam. The concept seems to be "Overcooked, but with lumberjacks." Having played some local and online co-op in the final release, I can affirm that chopping down trees and wrangling sheep with friends actually makes for a very good time.

Bloody Game Show Shooter 'DeathRun TV' Coming to Consoles and PC

What if the classic film and short story The Running Man was a cartoony Roguelike shooter? It would look a lot like DeathRun TV, an upcoming game from British indie developer Laser Dog and publisher Merge Games. DeathRun TV will feature cutesy art, lots of blood, dramatic slow-motion jumps, and 4-player local co-op.

Strange Brigade Unleashes Co-Op Strangeness on Switch

We at Co-Optimus had a great time with Strange Brigade when it appeared on PC and consoles back in 2018. It cleverly mixes the enjoyable third-person shooting of Rebellion's Sniper Elite and Zombie Army series with huge hordes of enemies, a rollicking Egyptian adventure, and humorous narration. A whole new set of players can enjo...

Finally, monkey balls will work together toward a common goal

'Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania' Coming in October, Promises Co-Op

Sega's path to reviving its Super Monkey Ball series is the path of the remaster. First, Super Money Ball: Banana Blitz rolled in for a moderate reception in 2019. Now, Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania promises to collect the stages from the first three Super Monkey Ball games and add 4-player local co-op to the mix. Given the volume of content and the fact that it's coming to all major platforms, that's possibly even more exciting than a new game.

3 newish playable characters strut their stuff

Max Returns in First Streets of Rage 4 'Mr. X Nightmare' DLC Footage

Most people will agree that one of the things about Streets of Rage 4 is that it did not have playable boss characters. You can play as a lot of fighters, especially if we count the classic versions, but not bosses. That will change when the premium 'Mr. X Nightmare' arrives in the near future, adding former bosses Max, Shiva, and Estel to ...
