Paul Acevedo - Editor

I’m a high school English teacher, writer, and ninja. My co-op gaming life started with the original Double Dragon arcade game in 1987. As I only owned an NES back then, my Sega Master System-owning friend used to get tired of me wanting to play through Double Dragon with him all the time. I still love cooperative beat-em-ups, including Final Fight, Castle Crashers, and Scott Pilgrim. I was once a competitive Saturn Bomberman player, but otherwise I have always been about the co-op.

My first experience with writing about games came in 2003 when I wrote a full walkthrough for Bomberman Land 2, an amazing Japanese Bomberman RPG. Over the next several years, I continued to write FAQs and Achievement guides for various games, culminating in an award-winning Bionic Commando Rearmed guide. I finally joined the gaming press after Windows Phone 7 launched, covering and reviewing games for Microsoft’s fledgling mobile platform. Now I’m on the console scene at Co-Optimus, one of the coolest and most unique gaming sites around.

Slime-San: Superslime Edition Available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One

Having already debuted on Steam and Switch last year, Slime-san recently slimed its way to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 as Slime-san: Superslime Edition. A wonderful single-player platformer with distinct five-color visuals and bite-sized stages, Slime-san is also overflowing with content. That includes five retro arcade games, three of which have full 2-player local co-op support.

Play in co-op or battle with more classic Konami characters

Contra Heroes Arrive in Super Bomberman R

No sooner did we publish our co-op review of Super Bomberman R than Konami published an update to every version of the game that adds a host of unlockable characters for co-op and battle modes. The biggest name characters are Snake and Raiden from Metal Gear Solid, but as co-op fans we’re most excited for playable characters from Konami’s traditionally cooperative Contra and Goemon franchises.

At last, co-op tank action for the masses

Battlezone: Gold Edition Co-Op Impressions

Two years ago, Rebellion revived the classic tank shooter Battlezone as a cooperative virtual reality game. While our own Nick Puleo considered it a quality (if overpriced) co-op game, players without VR headsets always had to sit things out. Now Battlezone: Gold Edition has arrived on console and PC without the need for VR, and we’ve got full co-op impressions to go with it.

With the United States infested by endless hordes of zombies, the only hope for survival is escaping to the cold and zombie-free climes of Canada. Steredenn: Binary Stars Update Brings Local Co-Op Shooting to Xbox One and Steam

Steredenn is a shoot ‘em up with Roguelike elements released way back in 2015. It has always been a single-player shooter, but that recently changed with the free ‘Binary Stars’ update. Thanks to this surprisingly great update, the Xbox One and Steam versions of Steredenn now support 2-player local co-op (just like the Nintendo Switch version)!

Attack on Titan 2 Hands-On Impressions

Koei Tecmo’s first Attack on Titan game was a surprisingly good adaptation of the popular anime. The co-op Scout mode wasn’t too fancy, but it did give players lots of missions to take on with online friends. Attack on Titan 2 is set to raise the bar a bit further when it arrives on consoles this March. We got our hands on the big-screen and Switch versions of the game at a recent preview event, checking out the character creation feature, new multiplayer mode, and more.
