Four New Animals Come to Tokyo Jungle

New outfits, too!

Is your Tokyo Jungle roster missing something? If you've been playing the quirky little brawler/survival game you've probably noticed the five locked animals toward the bottom of the character select screen. (Okay, there are many, many locked animals when your first start the game, but five of the animals are trapped behind red colored locks.) The Giraffe, Crocodile, Panda, Kangaroo, and Sabertooth have been taunting me for two weeks. Today, four of these five creatures are available for purchase from the PlayStation Store.

The Kangaroo, Giraffe, Panda, and Crocodile are available for $0.99 each, or you can get all four for $2.49. I shoved some quarters into my PS3 and downloaded the batch. Remember when $2.50 was good for a gallon of gas or a pack of smokes? Now all it will get you is four pretend animals that you can't even pet. Whatever. They're cool.

Completing challenges with each animal will unlock new articles of clothing and accessories. The Kangaroo can unlock boxing gloves; the Giraffe gets a Hibiscus; the Crocodile can earn rain boots, and the Panda can unlock items from a school girl's uniform. I'm not kidding. If you've been looking to complete sets of clothing for stat bonuses you're going to want to pick these guys up.

Make sure you check out the other Tokyo Jungle add-ons in the PS Store. New items like the Mannequin Plush, Demon Lord Plush, and Patapon Plush will add stat bonuses to your creatures and are totally free to download. They also make your animal look ridiculous. Watching a hyena take on a pride of lions with a stuffed animal riding on its back adds some levity to the carnage.

Once you've unlocked the four new animals through the PlayStation Store you DO NOT need to spend Survival Points to unlock them again. They'll be ready to go from the character select screen. Sadly, the Sabertooth and three other mystery animals are still on lockdown.

Tokyo Jungle supports two player local co-op. It's available now on the PlayStation Network. If you're in the mood for something different, I highly recommend picking up this game. For more information be sure to check out our Co-Op Review
