More Halo Reach Beta Hawtsauce

1-Up recently got some face time with Bungie designers Lars Bakken and Derek Carroll, and they have a lot to share. While the beta will be multiplayer only, the details of the new game types available in the beta may hint at some more interesting co-op modes as well. Here's a quick description of each game type we'll see in the beta (excluding crossovers from Halo 3):

Headhunter - Players score by collecting skulls and taking them to a moving "deposit zone." Players drop a skull when dying plus any skulls they were carrying. Players can carry as many skulls as they want, but keep in mind everyone can see how many you're carrying and once you hit 10, a waypoint is added to everyone's HUD. Headhunter is playable as free-for-all or teams.

Stockpile - A cross between capture the flag and territories. Four flags spawn at random flag stands around the map and teams compete to get those flags to their territory. Each flag within a team's territory at the bottom of every minute grants that team a point.

Generator Defense - Three Elites have orders to destroy three generators that are defended by three Spartans. Teams take turns on each side of the battle just like any other one-sided objective match. To me, this seems very reminiscent of Tribes.

Invasion - Bungie has yet to give any details about Invasion other than that it is six vs six and will feature all the vehicles you can handle. Sounds very exciting to me.

What does this mean for co-op? Well, for one, it seems like Bungie is playing with different types of objectives, like destroying generators, collecting skulls, etc. Hopefully these types of objectives will spill over to some co-op game modes.

Personally, I'd like to see some objectives added to a firefight mode. For example, defending generators could keep the lights on and base defense systems (turrets, force fields) up and running. Defending an ammo depot could keep you well equipped for the later waves. Of course I'm just speculating, but these multiplayer modes sure have me wondering what Bungie has in store for co-op modes. What co-op modes are you hoping for?
