First, lets start with greed and being careless.  Based on the actions of a developer DLC could lead to greed, carelessness, or both.  I know DLC is the rage now a days; however I think DLC is being used at the gamer's expense.  Whatever happened to games feeling more complete than unfinished?  I don't know all of the details when it comes to this matter; but the recent issue with Capcom has been burned into my mind ever since I joined the game forum at another weil known site.  When it comes to DLC I would like to pay for extra content instead of content that is actually locked away on a disk.
