50 Cent: Blood on the Sand's Sales Are Disappointing

Despite strong reviews, it appears one of two things may have happened with the latest 50 Cent title to bring on disappointing sales.

The first thing is the game fell into the shadow of it's predecessor, and game that while selling over a million copies, failed to impress reviewers. The second issue might be that 50 Cent isn't quite as popular as he once was, and even though the name is recognizable, many gamers scoffed at the idea of picking up a game starring him as the hero.

Blood on the Sand has sold an estimated 56,000 copies in the U.S. between its February launch and early April. In its first two months of release in the fall of 2005, Bulletproof - Blood on the Sand's prequel, sold 681,000 copies, with life-to-date sales of 1,123,000 units according to NPD. Quite the difference in numbers.

Kotaku takes a look at a few more reasons why the game sold so low, and even mentions that maybe Activision's decision to sell of the title might have been a pretty smart move after all. (Though we still can't say the same about Ghostbusters.)

Lets hope THQ drops the price of the game to a more wallet friendly $40. This should help spur some sales, because really, everyone deserves to find their diamond encrusted skull with a friend in co-op.

I havent played either one yet. Its been in my Gamefly queue, but I end up getting titles I want more first. I guess I'll get around to it eventually.

It's an alright game. The arcade style makes it a bit more interesting than a generic third person shooter. The mini objectives are quite fun too.

Gears of War 2 received a 5/5 here at Co-Optimus. 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand received a 4.5/5, which is saying something.

I didn't buy it for my own reasons, but then again I didn't buy Gears of War 2, either.

If you don't follow wannabes, then you'd better trade in your Gears of War...because kill.switch and 007: Everything or Nothing had the stop'n'pop shooter genre down pat well before Gears ever came on the scene.

All I'm saying is: you're missing out if those are your only excuses for not playing a game. My excuses aren't much better, but you're saying that you don't like the game -- even though you've never played it...and I checked your Gamertag.

that's pretty weak. i don't have anything nice to say about 50-cent, i just don't care for him or most of the culture around him. if you took his name off the game i'd probably buy it. as it is, i might pick it up in the bargain bin but that's unlikely.

I played it at a friends house- It was a party- sorry if I offended you but the game Is NOT that good. . . serious. I Would NOT Spend my money on that game, I probalby should have not posted such a Harsh post on the game but, , , Its Not that good. . . blunt! ! ! !

I know All ppl have different choices in tastes in games but the sales prove my point, it's not that good.

Wow, someone is getting defensive. I have no opinion in 50 cent game, cause I have no interest in it. I can't say how it plays.

You say all the games on your list you own, but I don't see anyone your list. Maybe you have a list at home. But if you use the site's profile you can add games you own and then see which members have the same games and that can help you get co-op partners

Just a friendly tip from you average internet user...

Dude live and learn that's all I can say, everyone has an opinion some play the game and see the mechanics and like it some don't, for me I refuse to play it simply because I can't stand games that drop the F - bomb constantly since I have a little one at the house but that's just me.

The important thing is you were man enough to admit you overreacted a little so ya know its all cool.

Stick around the site you will find we are all pretty laid back people who just enjoy gaming .

I asked for the Gamertag to make a point, and that point is that I didn't believe that you had played it. Everyone says "I played it at a friend's house" when they get called out.

But it's overblown. My bad. Move along, nothing to see here.
