Gears of War 2 Celebrates One Year with a Special Update

Merry Christmas.

One year of chainsaw dueling -- that's what Epic Games is celebrating this holiday season, and a nice Gears of War 2 playlist changeup is rolling out for your enjoyment.

Starting right now, players can rack up triple XP in Horde Mode and multiplayer. Plus, all public Horde matches are automatically bumped to Hardcore difficulty, and playlists are being tweaked so that you can find your favorite game more easily. To top it all off, "tactical mode" is available in all game modes, limiting ammo and increasing damage.

The special event lasts until November 16th, so get your Horde on asap!

Wow...didn't we get an update last week before Halloween too?

Couldn't they bundle them together and have the changes occur based on time and date?

Triple XP? Man, makes me wish this was posted earlier so I could rent the game. Otherwise, this will have to wait until next week. Nice though...

you would think so... bungie makes all kinds of changes to playlists and such without ever needing an update. maybe gears just wasn't designed with that sort of thing in mind.

Guys, I worded it wrong. It's not necessarily an update that you have to download, although it may be. The source post doesn't specify.

Probably just some serverside tweaks for this event. Triple XP sounds cool though, maybe I'll reach level 40 someday...

All the more reason for me to play more Horde, although if it's bumped up to Hardcore, that'll make wave 50 all the more elusive. Tactical Mode sounds cool though.

I'm playing right now...tactical mode = Lancer powered up...everything else sucks. For real.

Played a private match with the wife last night and the Horde seemed harder to take down than normal. Must be the lack of a VISR mode...
