Check Out 8-Bit Commando Today For A Healthy Dose of Retro Gaming

Hey retro gamers out there! If you’re a fan of the old-school, Contra days of the NES and SNES, then 8-Bit Commando is the game for you to check out. Developer 2DEngine went back in time and decided to satisfy our retro hunger, because there’s practically nothing modern going on about this game (and we like this very much).

These days, we normally get a more modern take on the 8-bit genre, such as Bit.Trip or FEZ. This game, however, has kept things as original and classic as possible, leaving close to no modern take on the gameplay/features whatsoever. Desura, an online gaming portal for purchasing games and posting mods, has recently featured this side-scrolling, run and gun, shooter, having caught our eye for some co-op related action. Even though this game has been out for a year now, this game still brings a true shout-out to all retro gamers still hanging in there in this age of FPS love:

8-Bit Commando is a run and gun platformer with fast-paced action, a rocking soundtrack (from the chiptune artist Ozzed), local multiplayer and explosions. The graphics will take you back to the classic age of gaming and the gameplay is bound to challenge even the most seasoned vets.

So what does the game feature besides local co-op play? Everything simple and sweet:

  • 6 levels of intense action
  • Beautiful retro graphics
  • 2 difficulty modes
  • Online hi-scores
  • Rocking chiptunes soundtrack

Unfortunately, 8 –Bit Commando’s co-op mode isn’t shown on the trailer video, but we can get an idea of what 2-player is going to be like. Here, take a quick look for yourself:

If you were a fan of Shoot Many Robots, then you might want to go back to the genre's roots with 8-Bit Commando. Get the game here for only a $ 6.95 download, available for PC or Mac, or a free demo if you’re low on cash. You won’t be disappointed.
