Split screen co-op is started by plugging in a second controller and pressing start on it in true drop-in fashion.

Resident Evil 5 Mercenaries Mode

Resident Evil 5 Co-Op

Background: Resident Evil writes a chilling new chapter as the Umbrella Corporation's bioweapons have fallen into the hands of rogue leaders. Play as Chris Redfield in a remote desert colony overrun by a new breed of evil. With hordes of flesh-eating beings ready to make you their next snack, escape may be the best way to survive. Environments play an increased role, with horrors possibly lurking in every alcove or behind every shadow. New lighting effects will make you wonder - was that movement, or just an illusion? Good thing you're not alone. A new focus on co-op play teams you with a zombie-destroying sidekick Sheva, who changes the way RE is played.

You can certainly debate how true this game is to the Resident Evil tradition, but that doesn't change that it is still a great game. In co-op, you can truly work together to survive each level, taking complimentary guns and supplies into each level, developing strategies to work through each part based on your play style and equipment, and saving each other from attacks. The ability to upgrade your armament with money you collect adds some replayability to the levels too, as you can just keep collecting money to make your guns even more effective.

It's also a simply beautiful game. I've been playing splitscreen on it, but have gone back into multiple levels in single player just to get a better look at the visuals.

This game is very very well done. Besides the worst level being the first one you have to play due to the large amount of enemies as you're trying to get your legs this is a co-op masterpiece. After the first abortion of a level and after we both got the control learning curve down the game continued to get better and better as you go along. There is enough variety to keep you always on your toes and interested. One level you're on a boat driving it as your friend snipes guards. Or in the back of a truck with two turrets chopping down motorcycles. There are levels with giants and the variations of enemies and locations is astounding. The game is longer than i expected, I wanna say 7 chapters with 3 or 4 levels in each. I thought I was close to finishing the game 2 or more times because it seemed fitting with the amount of content but it kept going. After completing it me and my friend were both very impressed with the balance of the game. There always seemed to be just enough ammo or a couple ways to finish off a boss level. To finish the game we used every bit of ammo (I sold some guns for grenade launcher ammo) to the last bullet.

5 stars for co-op, system link load times are not even existent. Quick speed, addictive gameplay, and some bad controls you can learn to live with like the fact you cant buy ammo for most weapons.

You would think they would patch the USB port stuff.. Its just silly to have to unplug stuff that you usually just leave plugged
Yeah but I think it would still be cool!
Thanks for clearing that up! I probably won't buy it though.
