First thing I want to do is give a big thanks to Nick for covering Beyond Co-Op for the past few weeks. Things have been so hectic for me (the list is too long and no need to bore you) that it didn’t give me a chance to sit down and work on finding news and get this posted for a few weeks. Now it’s time to settle back into the groove, although Thanksgiving weekend may be hard with my brother-in-laws wedding.

Is Saint's Row 2 is an open world co-op lovers dream? Or are hotdog suits not all they are cut out to be? We've got a different type of review to answer those questions, read on as we describe what it's like during a night in the Row with a co-op buddy.

Beyond Co-Op is where we talk about other news around the industry that isn't necessarily tied to co-operative gaming. Each week will see the subjects of the column listed on the front page with more in-depth discussion after the break. Bungie's Community Manager, Brian Jarrad, sat down with Joystiq to answer some lingering questions about the recent announcement of Halo 3: Recon. He explains that the game will have 4-player co-op in the campaign and that the game is built upon the Halo 3 engine, obviously refined to match up more with the passing of time from the last release.
The other big news is that the game will ship with new maps that can evidently be playable with a Halo 3 disc and will share space with the maps of those games. What that means I don't know, but it sounds pretty cool. Feel free to read the rest of the interview at the link below.

You could probably put that title in the "duh" category pretty easily considering any game played via co-op is better than playing it alone. Am I right? Kotaku comes to us with some co-op experiences from playing the game at the recent Tokyo Game Expo. They basically say co-op is far more fun in this game than playing alone, although it does rely on some gimmick gameplay where you get across chasms together and they make an analogy to ICO with that.
They also want to stress that Resident Evil 5 should not be considered a "survivor horror" game and should be considered an "action game" like the author considers Resident Evil 4 to be.

Dan Aykroyd told a Dallas radio station this morning that the upcoming co-op friendly Ghostbusters game has been picked up by Atari (just recently wholly bought by Infogrames) and will be released in 2009. Although there is no official word from the developers or the supposed publisher, chances are good that Aykroyd isn't making this up.
The only sad news is that it is coming in 2009, when it seemed to be pretty much done after Activision Blizzard decided not to pick it up. This fall is busy enough, so I suppose it's not all bad. Anyway, I ain't afraid of no ghosts.

Microsoft announced yesterday that when Grand Theft Auto IV for the PC comes out on November 18th of this year that its multiplayer component will exclusively use Games for Windows Live and include such things as achievements and an off-line marketplace related to the game.
Sam Houser, co-founder of Rockstar, explains it like this: "As we work toward the release of the PC version, Games for Windows Live affords us the opportunity to seamlessly translate the multiplayer console experience for PC gamers. The service is a natural fit for the platform and we strongly believe it will help in building a strong online community around GTA IV PC."
Sounds pretty cool, anyone been waiting for this game to come out on PC or have you already gone through the console versions and don't want to go through again? Looks like any co-op will need to be done via the now FREE GFW Live.
Full press release after the break
I’ve been playing video and computer games since I was around 4 years old with my Atari 2600 and going to the arcade. Eventually I got my first computer in 1989, although I had been playing games in school when allowed to. I own almost all the systems that have come out since the 2600 and have played countless games through the years. I started writing reviews of games online back in college, although at the start it was just from the free webpage my college gave me. I left console gaming for a bit during that time, concentrating more on computer games and playing LAN sessions in the computer lab (I worked there). Then the Playstation came and I’ve been a heavy console user ever since, but still find time to play computer games.. I started professionally writing game reviews for a commercial site back in 2002, left it in late 2005 and re-entered in late 2007 with Evil Avatar and GameShark. I now divide my spare time writing for Evil Avatar, GameShark and this very site. At this point I’ve probably written over 200 reviews over all the sites I’ve worked at and I certainly enjoy giving people an opinion I hope they can trust when deciding to buy a game or not. In my spare time outside of my regular job as well as playing and reviewing games I like to spend time with my wife of almost 7 years, helping her with her crafting business and going out and doing things together.
