On the Download Issue 36: The Decline of XBLA

Editorial 8:43 AM on 5/1/2012 by Nick Puleo

Over the years Xbox Live Arcade has gone through an evolution. While it started as remakes, re-releases, and every so often an original title it’s now evolved into something different. It’s now a service filled with games that aren’t quite big enough for a full retail product. It it feels like XBLA has lost its identity.

On the Download Issue 35: Cool to be Old School

Editorial 10:27 PM on 3/4/2012 by Marc Allie

It's time for another issue of On the Download, our monthly feature about downloadable games and content. This is my first time covering this column, and I was a bit perplexed as to what to discuss. I'm not exactly a hardcore PC gamer, but Andrew already covered that perspective a few issues ago. Do I dabble in the occasional indie bundle? Sure, but that's more Jason's domain. So what's a poor Co-Optimus editor to do in this situation?

On the Download Issue 32: Summer Promotions

Editorial 10:06 AM on 7/26/2011 by Nick Puleo

The summer is a traditionally slow time for videogames, publishers are readying their big releases for the lucrative fall holiday season. But the growing digital market has afforded them the opportunity to take advantage of the lull in releases and push out some truly great titles.

On The Download Issue 31: Digital Hoarding

Editorial 1:28 PM on 6/28/2011 by Katrina Pawlowski

As Digital distribution becomes more popular, sales happen. Whenever a sale appears, many gamers instantly hit that “confirm buy” button. Without a tangible way to document how many games that actually includes, or how many of them we have time to play, we may be victims of digital hoarding.

On The Download Issue 29: Best Games During Finals?

Editorial 8:37 PM on 5/5/2011 by Katrina Pawlowski

Instead of long-term gaming, what have I done instead? Spent my time playing smaller games with quick missions or games that are easily picked up and put back down. Though it’s difficult to tear myself away, I feel that this limited gaming has helped preserve my sanity during these dreaded finals...

On The Download Issue 22: Micro-Epic

Editorial 7:52 PM on 1/11/2011 by Katrina Pawlowski

The other day I was asked what I thought of Dragon Age by one of my buddies. I sat for a moment and finally admitted “I have it, but haven’t played...” Why would someone do that? I have a strange quirk where I don’t like starting games unless I have time to finish them...

This edition of On The Download addresses the dangerous mental, social, and emotional disorder known as Hoarding. Hoarders are people who feel they need to hold on to everything they’ve ever touched. This week we’ll be taking a look at a handful of dragons effected by Hoard-ing on the PSN.

On The Download: You’re Filling My Hard Drive(s)!

Editorial 7:17 PM on 11/16/2010 by Katrina Pawlowski

The past two years that I’ve been here with Co-optimus I’ve noticed one very important trend: Co-op games are coming in nice, affordable, downloadable packages. That being said, I’ve also noticed my hard drives filling up quickly - Be it my Xbox 360 250gig, or my PS3 80gig, space is running out...

On The Download Issue 17: Preliminary, Stand-Alone DLC Please

Editorial 11:51 PM on 9/21/2010 by Katrina Pawlowski

How important is DLC to you, really? Are you one of the types of gamers that's content with just playing part of a game, then moving on to something else? If so, the concept of stand-alone DLC may interest you considerably. I ask: Will Dead Rising 2's DLC help their sales, or satisfy gamers somehow?

On The Download Issue 16: How to choose, XBLA/PSN/PC?

Editorial 7:58 PM on 8/24/2010 by Katrina Pawlowski

It’s been a long-running battle of fans based on a lot of nonsense and personal preference, but how do you choose which system to buy a game on? Content available? Support? Online connectivity? Or are you one that consults all of your friends before coming to a decision on which system to use?

On The Download Issue 15: The Test Drive

Editorial 5:06 PM on 8/10/2010 by Katrina Pawlowski

Admit it, there are a lot of games on the market, and not a lot of time or money to go around. You really want the most bang for your buck, but who do you trust to give you the best possible recommendation. We give you our reviews, as well as other sites, but who should give you the final say-so?

On The Download Issue 14: Reminiscent of Hard Copies?

Editorial 4:07 PM on 7/27/2010 by Katrina Pawlowski

Remember the days when you had shelf after shelf of new games. Well, for some of us we’re still there, but as the gaming industry moves toward many more full game digital downloads, will we miss the cases and shelf art, or welcome the extra space in our gaming rooms?
