Halo: ODST And Halo: Reach At E3

The Halo universe was ripe with news at the Microsoft press conference from E3, detailing Halo ODST and announcing Halo: Reach at the same time. ODST is an expansion on the first Halo trilogy, only this time we're playing as ODST (Halo's version of Special Forces) Marines. While the whole compaign in ODST is co-op, an addition co-op mode called "Firefight" was announced, which is Halo's version of Gears of War 2's Horde Mode.

How does ODST differ from Halo 3? To start with, ODST, or Orbital Drop Shock Troopers, are not your standard Spartan. They'll have access to cool new gadgets, and different weapons. They may not have the AI help, but when you need night vision instead of a flashlight, ODST is the way to go. Additional story elements are hidden in items you find in the stages, fleshing out the details of the ODST missions and adding a new light to the universe. Up until this point, Master Chief has been your vessel, so step into the ODST shoes and walk a new path.

Halo: ODST has been something we've kept an eye on because of the campaign co-op, but now we're geared up to play Firefight long after we close the last page of the story. Firefight will add hours of interesting 4 player co-op challenges to the game, giving fans of the Horde mode in Gears of War 2 something to keep them occupied for some time to come. Additionally, fans of Halo 3 will get all new map add-ons to their game, extending the multiplayer life of that game as well!

Halo: Reach is presumably going to flesh out "The Fall Of Reach", the first Halo book written by Eric Nylund, telling the first tale of the Spartans, and the human civil war that has spread across the universe. While Master Chief is the primary protagonist, he is by no means the only Spartan around in this timeline. There are many different Spartans with unique abilities, which could potentially add a new depth to Halo Co-op. There aren't many details known about this game yet except the brief mention at E3 about multiple Spartans, speculation is expected - and along side the release of ODST, there will be a multiplayer beta of Halo: Reach to play on Xbox LIVE!

We have the official ODST Trailer for your viewing pleasure:
