When Spore released in 2008 it was an ambitious title that followed the evolutionary progress of a microscopic organism to a spacefaring creature. It was a critical and commercial success. How could Maxis improve upon the formula? Simple. Take the creature creator from Spore, add loot, and make it an action RPG. Darkspore is born.
We have a new video that focuses on the Hero Editor of the game. You can fully customize your creation with thousands of parts. The new Diablo-esque style of gameplay may be well suited to a franchise known for its customization options. Will the game's bountiful creature creator separate it from other action RPGs? We'll have to wait until spring to find out. Darkspore releases on March 29, 2011 for the PC. It supports 4 player online co-op.
