Kotaku has reported that Mercenaries 2 finally has a release date: August 31. The games is set to feature two-player co-op, and so far looks to be a pretty game. Mercenaries 2 is of course the sequel to the solid Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction, which essentially describes itself through its title.
Fans of the first game (a single-player only affair) have been pleased to know that Mercenaries 2: World in Flames has two-player co-op, and having a solid release date is all the more encouraging. Come August 31, Mercenaries 2 will give you and your buddy a chance to spend time in Venezuela (much to the chagrin of its president) just seeing the sites, and maybe occasionally blowing up a tank or two. Or twenty.
Just wanted to confirm that this game will own your face. I did some research and found that it will support full campaign mode split-screen co-op. I found the original Mercenaries to have everything that GTA always lacked:
1. Decent shooting mechanics
2. Military-grade vehicles and weapons
Add to that
3. No super-insane police/bad guys tracking you like Robocop through walls
4. Bonuses for destroying things rather than just finding dinky "packages"
Now, if they'll fix the drowning with one step in the water, we'll be gold!
Swimming is confirmed for Mercs 2 as well. Can't wait to see what the B-52 carpet bomb strike looks like in HD.
