Lost Planet 2 Demo Out Now, New Trailer is Explosive

Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo August 19th, 2009 at 11:23 AM

A friendly reminder that the four player co-op demo for Lost Planet 2 is now available to download to your Xbox 360 console.  The demo is playable over Xbox Live and features a mission from the campaign and a gigantic boss battle.

After watching the new GamesCom trailer for LostPlanet 2 - I can't get home fast enough to try the demo.  Don't believe me?  Watch for yourself and be the judge.

Oh man that trailer is awesome! I cannot, repeat, cannot wait for this game - both co-op campaign and online multiplayer!

Ditto!

I do have to admit, this makes me want to stop waiting for the $100 price drop of the elite. Must... be... patient...

Just need to wait until the 30th to see if the $100 price drop rumor is true.

smurphster at 08:26 AM on 8.19.2009

if you don't wait and it drops, you're going to be mighty mad that you didn't wait another 11 days. patience is a virtue!

TheReaperCooL It looks like Xbox Live is the only option available in the demo.

Just queued it and Shadow Complex up. Lost Planet left such a bad taste in my mouth that I'm hesitant to get excited for LP2, but I'll try the demo.

I hate the demo, I got killed so many times and it would pop up a small message on my Standard CRT TV about pressing "start"? for Harvest or Harmonize.

The controls are still slow, no running. I'm not interested in the game anymore...

I thought the demo was alright. I guess I expected capcom to make much more better enhancements to this shooter and make it more competent. A lot has improved in 3rd person shooters since lost planet 1.

I know to some hardcore lost planet fans it may strip out the feel of this series by drastically changing the 3rd person shooter combat to feel more like gears or uncharted, but I don't know. Other then the acrid, grapple hook, and mechs who really LOVES the core third person on-foot combat?

bigDinyomouth at 11:59 PM on 8.19.2009
also you can run (seems slow) you just gotta hold down B I believe

Zonf86 at 12:08 AM on 8.20.2009

I think the addition of 4 player co-op is the biggest enhancement they could have made. I actually find the third person on-foot combat refreshing in a market full of FPSs.

bigDinyomouth at 12:27 AM on 8.20.2009
I agree, but i was referring to LP2's third person shooter mechanics vs that of other 3rd person shooters like gears,uncharted,ao2,etc.

im not really fond of the aiming, as well as the slowness(this game would benefit from faster movement)

and to a lesser extent the controls (pushing in the right thumbstick to reload and up on the d-pad to zoom-in is kinda awkward for me, yes im weird)

I am however still getting this game and forcing 3 buds who I know hate the first game(unfortunately) and force them to play with me because taking out big akrid is awesome.

Indeed. On Freedom Fighters (a game that still sits in my top 5) to manually aim you have to hold one of the sticks in while aiming with another. Harder then it sounds that. Lucky you only need to do it a few times in the game.

blakepro at 12:32 AM on 8.20.2009

Are there no options to tweak the controls? Reassign buttons? Increase joystick sensitivity?

Zonf86 at 01:00 AM on 8.20.2009

Oh I see... they are quite a lot more 'chunky' controls than Gears etc...the way I like to think of it is that the armour you are wearing restricts your movement and speed. The D-Pad zoom is quite annoying though I have to say.

Controls are a small price to play for such an epic game though!

Biohzrd451 at 01:21 AM on 8.20.2009
I thought the demo was good, the controls seem slow but I think it is because of the angle or view that it feels that way, believe me I thought they were really slow but after playing through the second time i got the hang of it and it felt very fluid.

Also running can be done by pressing and holding the b button. When it pops up press start to harmonize your health is low if you press and hold start it will covert the thermal energy to health.

I died alot the first time mostly due to not paying attention, but around the second run Zonf86 and I figured out you can get inside the Salamander, I remember my exact words

Bio:"I am in inside the lizard!"
Zonf86: "How did you get in there?"
Bio: "I used the hook to get inside when he opened his mouth.... I am about to come out of him!"
Zonf86: "Where?"
Bio: "You don't want to know."

I thought it was probably the best demo I played on live since Left 4 Dead. This game was nowhere on my radar but now it is.

I thought the worm in GoW2 was bad, at least you came out through its side!

samoza at 02:58 AM on 8.20.2009
I managed to get on some games last night - really well made demo, well contained and gave a great impression of what the full game may be like. The controls are like the first game, so I am used to them. However, some people may find them off putting.

Grill Massah at 02:47 PM on 8.20.2009
You can change control schemes by pressing the "back" button and going to the controls menu. There are only two configurations, but "pattern B" felt a lot more comfortable for my playing style, zoom becomes LB and reload becomes RB.

I agree it feels a tad clunky and I don't like the wispy aiming reticule. You definitely get a feel for the controls after messing around a bit and I really liked the gritty feel and all the mechs that just happened to be lying around.

Armor Biff at 03:29 PM on 8.20.2009
I like the demo, and will be playing it more with my friends. But I didnt know you could run, so thanks for the tip. Also, how do you use the hook ? Can it be used to reach higher areas quickly, instead of running around/taking a longer route ?

Zonf86 at 12:29 AM on 8.21.2009

Hit X to fire it. You can hook on to mechs, buildings and walls. It's a much faster way of climbing up stuff - you also do a little jump at the end of the hook, getting you more height than you first might think.

I'm tempted to get Halo 3: ODST and perhaps Halo 3 so I don't have to rent them any more.Hmmm choices....
