New Aliens title to Feature 4 Player Co-Op

News
Twitter facebook googlebuzz

If there's one game that ever needed co-op, it was a game based on the Aliens franchise.  After previous games based on the series failed to deliver, it looks like Gearbox Software (Brothers in Arms, Half-Life Blue Shift) is ready to step up to the plate.

The game is called Aliens: Colonial Marines and will be available for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and Windows PC late this year.  The story is being penned by famous authors Bradley Thompson and David Weddle, and its' a story that promises to drive a 4 player cooperative experience.

Aliens: Colonial Marines will feature a story driven single-player mode and an all-new four player co-op mode allowing players to share the chilling experience with three friends. In co-op mode, each player will assume the persona of a United States Colonial Marine and have a distinct role to play in the completion of every mission.

Packing classic Aliens weaponry ranging from pulse rifles to flamethrowers as well as brand-new equipment and skills all within a squad-based combat system, players will become an elite United States Colonial Marine. Featuring claustrophobic environments, a brooding soundtrack, and a multitude of surprises and shocks, players will battle against menacing alien hordes in strikingly detailed levels that include the stark interiors of the abandoned Sulaco and unique environments created specifically for the game.

This has the potential to be really incredible.   Hopefully the 4 player co-op experience is available online...or GAME OVER MAN! GAME OVER!

Official Release:

SEGA® of America Inc. and SEGA® Europe Ltd. today revealed details of the highly-anticipated squad-based first-person shooter video game, Aliens: Colonial Marines™. Licensed through an exclusive agreement with Twentieth Century Fox Licensing and Merchandising and developed by Gearbox Software, the game will be available on Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system and Windows-based PC in late 2008.

I am extremely looking forward to this game. Hopefully Gearbox does right by all the ALIENS fans out there! I am sad that this isn't a game in the vain of the AVP games where you could play as marine, alien or predator but I understand how much work that would take in the high budget high def game development of today. I am looking forward to some great co-op and hope the campaign changes based on whether your by yourself or with buddies including more enemies and different challenges or puzzles.

And love the site, I am a huge co-op gamer! I think that is why I enjoy the 360 so much, it has the most co-op games and co-op is just perfect over live with voice chat and instant invites. I also applaud the fact that MS has pushed co-op in alot of the games it publishes and the more we support co-op games the more we will see I hope. After the success of recent co-op games in the past year or two I believe is it showing publishers/devs how much we love an awesome co-op experience! And I think we are beginning to see that. Looking forward to Army of Two and this Aliens game specifically.
