Introducing the Co-Opticast

Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo September 11th, 2008 at 11:32 PM

Welcome ladies and gentlemen to the new era in podcasting - the co-op era!  Today is episode 1 of our brand new podcast called...The Co-Opticast.  I will wait while you sit in awe of the name.  Good?  Ok then.

So Episode 1 has just gone live, and you'll find a action packed 30 minute episode of co-op goodness.  We discuss our infamous Top 5 List, what we've been playing, classic games, and what's up with split screen.

You can subscribe to our feed right here or listen live below.  Hopefully we'll be listed in iTunes soon.

Let us know what you think!

I think this may be the greatest achievement in the history of podcasting.

Apparently I stutter and say "um" and "uh" a lot. I promise to work on that.

Also of note: my Xbox 360 died about an hour after we wrapped recording this bad boy. I'm apparently a scourge to hardware.

Gratz guys! The podcast was great and I could listen to it while gaming! Does it get any better than that? Hopefully it will! (by that, I mean keep em coming)
Gratz again!

This is excellent news. I was hoping this site would eventually start a cast and my wish came true. I plan to listen over the weekend.

I added the podcast feed to my Zune and it downloaded it with no problems. I enjoyed it; you all did a great job!

This sounds great, guys! Did you record in the same room, or did you go true co-op style and record it over the Internet?

Also I like the bump at the beginning, obviously the Big Radio Voice of our friend Scott

I need to add this to my pod casts

We recorded this via Skype. There's still a few things we'd like to improve, but for a first go I think we are pretty happy with it.

Oh and Pherbear, you don't really stutter and "um" as much as you think. You sounded comfortable to me (both of you guys did) and especially for your first podcast.

I'm sure after a few more you guys will hit your stride- you could definitely find your energy level a little higher so it's not the NPR of podcasts - not a bad thing, but games are EXCITING! EXTREME!! (Howard Dean) YEEEAAAAAAAAAUAUUUUUGHHHHH!

Maybe don't take it quite that far

What a great addition! Co-optimus is already THE place to be for co-op fans, but this site is going to be completely mainstream before long.

I haven't listened yet...downloading via aircard from my evac spot.

See I was hoping you'd say that. Another example where going over the Internets simulates being in the same room (it sounded like you were sitting across the table from each other).

Skype for podcasting is great. Can't wait to listen to this later tonight.

AgtFox at 04:23 PM on 9.12.2008
For the one time I was on Evil Avatar Radio I wished it was done through Skype. My voice was so soft over my cell phone, would be cooler via a headset and Skype.

Fivespot at 05:06 PM on 9.12.2008
Increases your edit time I'm sure going the skype route vs. in person/together but it sounded great. In other words good job editing the podcast!

pheriannath at 06:34 PM on 9.12.2008
Yep, there were some leveling issues I heard, but overall I'm pleased with Skype's performance. Glad to hear we "fooled" some of you into thinking we were together!

Weird, subscribed to iTunes using the Feedburner link. But it didn't seem to be listed yet on the iTunes store when I searched around.

bapenguin at 12:10 AM on 9.13.2008
Yeah I think it takes a few days to get up in iTunes.

Rogue_hunter at 10:36 PM on 9.13.2008
Got the chance to listen, great first episode, and great length. Many podcasts now stretch into 2 hours, and become a time sink. If you guys keep the length the same, it will definitely be easier to listen to whenever there is a new episode.

Is there a way to download this so I can put it on my mp3 player? I tried saving the feedburner link but it keeps stopping after a few seconds.

bapenguin at 07:43 AM on 9.17.2008
Odd. Like you opened up the feed and tried to save the file?

Gerbs at 01:03 AM on 9.18.2008
Yeah I set Firefox to http://feeds.feedburner.com/co-opticast, right click the "play now" link to save the MP3 and every time my download manager locks up at 2.65 megs downloaded.

if it's like the 360 version, I think you can make a custom game mode with infinite respawns.
