Co-Opticast Episode 2: Rainbows, Unicorns and Exploding Angels

We've just posted our 2nd Episode of the Co-Opticast.  This week Mike and myself are joined by Marc "DjinniMan" Allie to discuss topics ranging from Rock Band 2 to Diablo 3.  Want to listen in and know more?  Hit this link.

Update:  There appears to be issues with users trying to download the podcast.  We can only hope this is because of the overwhelming demand for it's high quaility content.  We'll let you know as soon as it's fixed.

What do you guys think?

I'm a bit bummed that I can't listen to it in Firefox, but I finally learned how to pronounce "DijinniMan!" Success!!

With actual feedback to the audio quality, I think Marc sounded the most comfortable and is a natural on the mic. Make him a regular. Bap, you might need to bump yourself up in the mix, you were kinda hard to hear occasionally. I'm guessing you're a bit soft spoken by nature?

I love the "What Are You Playing?" segment, and good idea to have it right at the beginning. Unfortunately, that's as far as I made it. I was unable to get the podcast loaded on my iPod. The subscribe button says "disabled" in my iTunes Store. Listening online, the playback got stuck at 5 minutes 21 seconds and keeps saying "Buffering..." but never plays. These might both just be technical issues on my end, but for the time being I can't listen to the rest. Later on when I get a chance I'll try to hear it again. I'm really hooked to Marc's siren-song voice. I bet he's dreamy in real life. Whoa, did I just type that? Better erase that before I accidentally click subm

Pssh, I get no love.

I'm not sure what could be causing streaming errors, etc. I just downloaded the full podcast via iTunes and I streamed the whole thing through the player last night. Maybe Feedburner (what we're using to publish the podcast) is dodgy?

justabaldguy at 10:33 AM on 9.24.2008
Were you the other guy? Yeah, you sucked! Nahh, I'm kidding. Sorry about omitting you. Like I said, I caught 5 minutes, and I don't recall reading your handle/GT in Bap's little description below the post, so I just missed you.

EDIT: I just restreamed it and heard your name Mike. Still not sure how to pronounce it, but it was there. My bad for missing it the first time! That said, it again hung up at the 5 minute mark, still can't hear beyond that...

Baldy, I'm not sure whether to be flattered, or scared. Probably, a bit of both.

I thought the podcast turned out great. It was a good mix of info on the site and other stuff, which is good for both regular visitors and the podcast only folks. I think we should make a full download of the MP3 available, perhaps; that way, we'd avoid issues like Baldy mentioned.

Bap's got a direct download link set up for us to preview the files with, I'll let him decide whether or not to share the goods.

Fivespot at 11:31 AM on 9.24.2008
I'll listen today and will post feedback later. I was happy to see a new episode was available this morning.

I use the Zune software to grab the podcast and have experienced no issues.

txshurricane at 11:40 AM on 9.24.2008
I have yet to even listen to the first one, because I was evacuated and a storm was tearing through my home city at the time.

I've finally downloaded it, along with the second, and I'll listen to them while catching up on files at work today.

blakepro at 12:11 PM on 9.24.2008
Something is certainly wrong with the way the files are hosted. I cant get either podcast to download completely on itunes or feedburner. I't will do great for a short period of time, but once you get to a certain point, it will just stop working and you can never get beyond that point... even if you stop and restart the download. Any options for hosting the files someplace else?

pheriannath at 12:51 PM on 9.24.2008
The only other podcast propagation site I know of is Podtrac... anyone have any insight?

OrigamiPanther at 12:57 PM on 9.24.2008
blake, I've had the same issue d/ling podcasts through iTunes. They'll go up until a certain point and then stop. Usually it means I have to just wait for a little while and then try again and it'll go fine.

Not sure about other hosting options.

As for feedback, I liked the 3 chair format for this one. The length still feels right to keep things focused, and bi-weekly works for release. Look forward to the next one!

bapenguin at 01:01 PM on 9.24.2008
Grrr. I don't understand what is wrong.

Fivespot at 01:26 PM on 9.24.2008
See people. This is why the Zune is by far and away the superior mp3 player.

blakepro at 01:56 PM on 9.24.2008
Silly Fivespot, it has nothing to do with the ipod. I have the same problem if I try to download it manually using a web browser.

And OrigamiPanther, I've tryed restarting the downloads several times in the last week and it aways errors out. I've even deleted the temporary file, unsubscribed to the podcast and resubscribed with a fresh temp folder and it still gets hung up. It downloads very quickly at first, and then it just stops with an error, and then if you try to resume, it will try for a few minutes and then kick the error back again without making progress. I've had a few instances when it will actually gain a small chunk more of the download and then error out again, but eventually it hits a roadblock that it never can pass. I've tried it from a few different computers to, so I dont think its my computer specifically. It is strange that some people are getting it just fine though.

bapenguin at 02:26 PM on 9.24.2008
I've added a direct download link for now. Hopefully I can figure this out eventually, it's driving me insane.

blakepro at 02:39 PM on 9.24.2008
Hopefully I'm not bothering you with this. I'm just trying to help you figure it out... I just tried downloading with your direct download link. I'm using my work computer with a T1 now (just for the sake of trying various computers) the direct download quickly pulled down 4.91 MB of the 35.4MB file and it has now stopped there. The progress bar is no longer filling and it is just stuck with 15% of the file downloaded. I suspect that I could leave the download window up all day and it would never complete. I think your web host doesnt like me for some reason. Maybe its a geographical thing. I live in Alaska, so maybe that has some strange thing to do with it. I've never had problems like this with anything before though.

bapenguin at 02:40 PM on 9.24.2008
No, that really helps. This definitely narrows it to a server side thing.

Fivespot at 02:50 PM on 9.24.2008
I just finished listening and enjoyed the latest podcast. The addition of a third chair helped spice things up a bit (kept the conversation flowing). I liked the discussion on old school arcades and the stories that were shared relative to that topic (1984 & the bachelor party).

Levels were, for the most part, good. Nick came through a little quiet.

Keep 'em coming and let us know if there is anything we can help with from a community stand point.

txshurricane at 02:56 PM on 9.24.2008
Bap - is your latest blog photo anyhow related to this post? Just curious.

justabaldguy at 03:03 PM on 9.24.2008
I can't get the download to complete either... Still hangs, at roughly the same spot, where Djinni talks about his kids... maybe THAT'S part of the problem...

bapenguin at 05:35 PM on 9.24.2008
Let me know if it's working now.

blakepro at 05:56 PM on 9.24.2008
I can confirm that its not working on my computer still. This time it got stuck at 2.82MB. Do you mind me asking who does your web hosting? I have a couple of websites on bluehost and I've been pretty happy with them. I wonder if you've got some funky file or bandwidth restrictions.

bapenguin at 06:54 PM on 9.24.2008
I put a ticket with our host (LiquidWeb) and as far as they can tell it's working.

It seems to be working fine from my home pc, but not my work pc. I don't get it.

bapenguin at 07:00 PM on 9.24.2008
Anybody have luck with this one perhaps?

DjinniMan at 07:07 PM on 9.24.2008
I downloaded from the direct link from my home, no problems. I didn't think to try from work, earlier. Odd stuff.

blakepro at 07:27 PM on 9.24.2008
That one got to 7.48MB before getting stuck.
Tried it again, got stuck at 1.21MB
Tried a 3rd time. stuck at 1.14MB
4th 1.23MB.

Yeah, this one isnt working either...

bapenguin at 07:39 PM on 9.24.2008
I appreciate you helping out. Now I just hope I can figure out wtf is going on. It's been working perfectly at home here for me.

blakepro at 07:50 PM on 9.24.2008
Me too.

I think the intarwebs just cant handle Angels exploding while flinging rainbows at unicorns.

I'll just keep testing whatever you throw at me. good luck.
