Disney Infinity will be expanding its roster of playable characters in the next installment of the series, Disney Infinity 2.0. Adding to their line of uber popular series, Marvel seems like the next logical choice.
Disney hinted that Marvel characters will be coming in the version sometime in the future, but no release date has been announced at this time. The very brief trailer, "Get Ready to Assemble" showcases a cutscene where Captain America's shield ricochets around the Toy Box mode, startling the other Disney characters. I have no doubt in my mind that this means, besides the Captain, members from The Avengers team will be coming to the version.
The groundwork for their individual abilities is certainly there: Hulk would be like Mr. Incredible, Hawkeye could mimic the archer enemies, and lots of flying around for Thor and Iron Man. Heck, even Speedy's running could be used for Quicksilver, who's to be in the Avengers 2 (promotions, anyone?).
A while ago, the game and various news reports also alluded to Star Wars characters possibly showing up too, as players could gain the green lightsaber weapon upon 100% completing all currently available characters. Maybe we'll see both Marvel and Star Wars make it in at the same time, but we'll have to wait and see.
Disney Infinity 2.0 is speculated to be its own, standalone game that builds of the base of Disney Infinity. We're keeping our fingers crossed hoping that we won't need to buy a new sensor pad to read figures or discs.
