Gamestop has long been the undisputed leader of the used game industry. Untold millions of gamers trade in their old, unwanted games for the latest and greatest, and Gamestop profits. And profits mightily, to the tune of 8.8 billion (a majority from used sales) in 2008.
It's no surprise, then, that other retailers are anxious to get a piece of the used game market. In the past few weeks, news has broken that Amazon.com, Toys R Us, and Best Buy are all accepting used games as credit for new purchases. Now gamers have several more options as far as trading in games is concerned.
Personally, I've not traded in a game in years. After I was offered a whopping dollar for a Game Boy Power Rangers game, I decided Ebay was the way to go, for me. I also prefer buying my games new if at all possible, to support the developers. What are your thoughts on trading in games in general, and in particular, this news of the upcoming competition for used game sales?
