New Gears of War 3 Screens from Gamescom, Gets 3D Support

Gorgeous looking screens from Epic's shooter make us wish it was September 20th already.

We just got a fresh batch of screenshots from Gamescom 2011 for Epic's upcoming four player co-op shooter, Gears of War 3.   The shots show off the game's campaign and Horde Mode 2.0, so there might be some minor spoilers on display.  We do get glimpses of some of the new characters we'll be taking control of as well.

Epic has also revealed that Gears of War 3 will support 3D out of the box.  While other Xbox 360 games have supported 3D, Gears of War 3 marks the first major first party published title that supports the feature.  It's not perfect though as Gears 3 producer Rod Fergusson explains.

"It was something that came in really late in our process. It wasn't something where we said, OK, we're going to design the game from the ground up for 3D. It was more of a post-process 3D, where we're like, OK, certain things need to be adjusted, but for the most part it generally works.

"It's great. I love the qualities it provides, the window into a world. That's what the 3D gives you. Having that depth of character, and being able to see that separation from the reticule and the creatures in the background – it's a different experience but it's a really good one."

Gears of War 3 is out September 20th with a 4 player co-op campaign and 5 player co-op online Horde and Beast modes.
