Oops! Looks like ole Atriox done kicked up a nest of the Flood. Halo Wars 2 will be getting an expansion this fall that includes new campaign missions, new multiplayer leaders, and, oh yes, a new Firefight mode.
The fans asked for it, and it's nearly here. The co-op friendly Warzone Firefight will be added to Halo 5: Guardians and available for all to play very soon.
The new Warzone Firefight mode for Halo 5: Guardians, which was rumored earlier this year and formally announced last month, is available to play for a limited time. No need to sign up anywhere or download something, just go fire up the game on your Xbox One, head over to the multiplayer section, and you should see the option to play in the Warzone menu.
Fans of the Halo series may recall a particularly fun horde mode in Halo 3: ODST called "Firefight." Unlike many other games with similar features out there at the time, what made this one so special was the inclusion of the Halo Skull modifiers, which would change things up a bit every five rounds. Folks (ourselves included) have been clamoring for this beloved mode to return, and it looks like we'll finally get our wish soon.
Here's a bit of awesome information that Microsoft just confirmed to us - Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary will include the popular four player co-op Firefight mode found in Halo 3: ODST and Halo Reach. As the anniversary edition is rumored to be built on the Reach engine, we imagine that Firefight will be fairly similar to it with all of the customization options.
It has been 36 days since Halo: Reach hit the store shelves. In the past five weeks a ton of great games have come out for single and co-op play. Vanquish, Enslaved, Castlevania, Dead Rising 2, and Fallout: New Vegas are just a few good to excellent games that have all been vying for attention. For many gamers I know, Reach has made the trip back to that 'Used Games' shelf in the sky in exchange for a down payment on an apartment in New Vegas, or a hovel in Albion.

Bungie's final pre-Halo: Reach weekly update gives us two impressive looks at the co-op campaign and Firefight (2.0). The campaign mission is "Tip of the Spear", and is played by composer Marty O'Donnell and audio lead Jay Weinland. Firefight is played by senior designer Lars Bakken, sandbox designers Sage Merill and Josh Hamrick, and mission designer Mike Tippewulf.
Halo: Reach's competitive multiplayer will undoubtedly be where the truckloads of character XP (called "Credits") are at. It will also be where the truckloads of whining, singing, griefing, elitist turds are at. So imagine our tears of joy when the MTV Multiplayer blog snagged a few new details outlining how Credits and customization is handled in Firefight 2.0 - and how they're both to our benefit.
Halo Reach is slowly teasing us since its announcement last year. It started off slowly working up to the big release, now revealing character sexes, game upgrades from the rest of the series, and a 7 minute titillating video showing off some Firefight 2.0 moves. Kotaku.com had a bit of a hands-on session explaining a lot of the co-op changes, as well as the gender roles of the new Reach universe.
As no doubt hundreds of adoring fans are finding out at the E3 Halo: Reach event tonight, Halo 3: ODST's popular Firefight co-op survival mode is being confirmed for final Bungie chapter, due this September. Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb and the Halo Waypoint have both broadcast via Twitter that Firefight 2.0 will be a featured mode.
We've previously covered, through various post-mortems and look-back interviews, how Bungie had considered Matchmaking for Halo 3: ODST, but how it was ultimately shot down due to the time and effort that would have been involved with such an undertaking. Well last Friday OXM UK heard from Bungie's community boss, Brian Jarrard, that Bungie's biggest regret was "not being able to go back and make Firefight in ODST work and have match-making."
As the release of Halo 3: ODST rapidly approaches, we're getting a few more of the gritty details emerging from the woodwork. Unfortunately, we've got some disappointing details this time, specifically about the highly anticipated Firefight mode. Buckle your seatbelts, it's gonna be a bumpy ride.
