Buy Night Vision Goggles, Get Modern Warfare 2

Say goodbye to cat helmets, sound tracks, art books, and behind the scenes DVDs.  They no longer are the bar for collector's editions of games.  Infinity Ward's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has set the new baseline with their Prestige Edition of the game.

Not only will the box set include the game, an art book, arcade code and some limited edition packaging - it will include real working night vision goggles to spy on your neighbors or keep neighborhood watch for terrorists.

FourZeroTwo unboxes the entire set in the latest YouTube video from IW, and it certainly looks quality.  There's no word on price for this, but expect it to be one of the most expensive gaming box sets to date.

How come the box for the actual game says "Call of Duty", but every other thing in the set just says "Modern Warefare 2"? Is Infinity Ward fighting to separate themselves from the Call of Duty franchise which is being ruined by Treyarch?

They did want to distance themselves for CoD franchise, but recent reports suggested that gamer awareness of the game being a CoD (and therefore AAA) game dropped. So looks like they have re-introduced it, as mentioned in an article last week on the site about the games packaging.

I disagree that CoD franchise is being 'ruined by Treyarch'. Admittedly they are stuck with the WWII theme, but they did take the game to the pacific for some lovely locations and story arcs. This was in addition to co-op main campaign and in their innovative and fun nazi zombie mode.

Ruined? I think not. A different take on the intense game play of a CoD game? Without a doubt.

The night vision goggles are functional, but still pretty lame. You can buy a similar set at Toys R Us for $80.

If nothing else, it looks cool on the Soap McTavish head. I can see Nick's office space spruced up even more with this.

@Zonf86 I have to disagree. Personally, I will never buy another Treyarch game again after playing through COD5 twice (once single player, then again in co-op). Both times were very painful and I feel the best thing you can say about Treyarch is that they make Infinity Ward look even better.

ANYWAY. That is a CRAZY box. I mean, I won't buy it, but ten years ago before I had kids to feed I would have.

@Sinnex,

I have to ask, if it was so bad, so atrocious, that it convinced you that you should never buy another Treyarch game again...why did you play it through twice?

With all respect: unless you were horribly let down from Hype Mountain, there's no reason to hate Treyarch so badly. COD World at War is not that bad -- in fact, it was better than a great many games last year -- and Treyarch has laid the groundwork for co-op support and web-based stat tracking for future titles.

To say that you'll never play a Treyarch title again is pretty preposterous. Every development studio has an opportunity to redeem themselves. (Guerrilla Games, anyone?)

WAW was a delightful surprise from that crapfest that was cod3. They at least show that they listen and will never make that error again.

Its just all the IW fanboys still holding onto there grudge, still not willing to forgive treyarch for the errors of cod3.WAW was nowhere near bad, derivative, but great no less!

I will say however that IW is more artistic in terms of there scripted moments.

WaW was not a bad game, but for me it just did not have enough going on to have me keep it.

After the 36th attempt at doing the last but one 'German' level on veteran (those of you who have tried it will know it as 'the artillery gun, stupid grenade bit') I decided that enough was enough and traded it. I had got a lot of it up until that point... veteran on CoD games is rather difficult.

Hehe i managed to get past that part after about like 3 hours of trying and screaming at my tv.

Nick and I spent a lot of time there, too, while playing for the review. It was nuts, and we were only on Hardened.

I never talk when I play online on COD. No one really says anything worth listening to, or no one talks whatsoever.
Part of me wants to crop the second picture you took, and add text. Something simple, like "Oh geez. . ." It's got the perfect f
BORDERLANDS! Hopefully finish my first playthrough! I'm on "The Final Piece" but I'll probably do side quests as well.
Did they make a remake on Gameboy Advance or something? I remember the name.
