Left 4 Dead's "No Mercy" Ending Just Became a Cliffhanger

Don't breathe that sigh of relief just yet, Survivor...your helo ride from the roof of the Mercy Hospital isn't the ticket to safety you thought it was.
Valve has announced that a new Left 4 Dead chapter will be available in September for campaign and versus play, and will cost you a mere $7 (560 MS Points) if you're an Xbox 360 player. Better yet: it will be free for the PC crowd.
The chapter is called Crash Course: apparently, the Survivors cannot keep their Huey chopper in the air for very long. The full plot of Crash Course aims to tie together the No Mercy and Death Toll campaigns. I know what you're all thinking, and the answer is: no, Left 4 Dead does not have enough spectacularly crashing aircraft already!

"New locations, new dialogue from the original cast, and an explosive finale" were promised, with Valve noting that the download--meant to bridge the gap between the existing "No Mercy" and "Death Toll" campaigns--will also bring new Survival maps alongside the new single and multiplayer campaign.
"The primary goal of 'Crash' is to deliver a complete Versus mode experience in just 30 minutes, resulting in a streamlined version of the game's existing Versus campaigns," the company explained. "A recharge timer for infected teammates has also been added, and item spawn behavior has changed for more balanced gameplay."

Valve once again delivers for L4D!!!
God that would be awesome, but it could be like some of the other posters where it showed weapons they didnt have in the game, still I would love to see new stuff, maybe tier 3s.
Yea not sure they could connect Dead Air and Blood harvest, but I could be wrong.
I have a feeling we will see a connection between Death Toll and Last Stand although thats only a theory lol.
Agreed man I saw this just browsing over the forums and it made me excited, I wonder if it will come with new achievements it means another one that has to go down on expert .
I've recently got back into playing Left 4 Dead again and playing it really reminds me of why I love it, to me it is the best co-op game to date nothing really has come close to the first time with four friends making our way through No Mercy.
PC players get it fro free, get to play with L4D & L4D2 players, got other DLC for free, etc.
L4D2 gets so much stuff and this is the DLC they had been working on.
I'm tempted never to buy from Valve. L4D was a first and I'm regretting it....
I'm not sure where you are coming from with that question....
For 560Gs I reckon I will get the extra maps anyway.
I will join you on the cynicism.
I believe in games as a product. Something you buy, like a toy, for entertainment. I can buy an action man, and if I want, I can buy new accessories for that action man (DLC).
People who believe in games as a service (and the thing I was asking you) believe games to be like hiring a chef. You pay x amount at somewhat regular intervals, and in return they keep doing stuff for you, in this case it's to entertain rather then cook meals.
Episodic and MMO content aside, I don't see how you how can really justify the idea that games are service.
Second I don't see the problem with buying a new campaign for 7 bucks, my reasoning? Well I enjoy Valve games and Left 4 Dead happens to be one of my favorite games and if spending 7 bucks helps Valve keep developing content for their games I will continue to buy it. I also look at it this way 7 bucks is me going to a fastfood joint once and the 7 bucks and food is gone, however the new map will sit happily on my Hard drive for years .
But why would I support them when the game I buy is being dumped for the new model?
I don't see how you can hold it against valve to release a new game and say they dumped the old one, if anything Left 4 Dead is one the few games that I know despite the sequel I will pick up again down the road.
amen to that... the current L4D and its campaigns will be fun to re-visit for years despite the "new model". hell i still play halo 1&2 from time to time.
Like I said, this is my first experience with Valve and they are surely disappointing me compared to how they were before this...atrocity
I'm confused... if this is your first experience with Valve, how can you compare them to how they 'were before this'?

To Sabre: Valve had a reputation and since Left 4 Dead, that reputation seems to be diminishing.
I don't see how their reputation is diminishing, I mean I have played their games since Half Life and every game I have played has been equally as good. I played the heck out of the Orange Box Team Fortress 2 to be exact and yea I was mad about not getting new maps... however I know going in buying a 360 game that I wont get nearly the support I would if I had bought the PC version. For people disappointed (why I don't know) Valve doesn't have to support anything after dishing out the game to the consumer.
I could still have Left 4 Dead the way it was when I bought the game back last year and I can honestly say I would enjoy it just as much as I do it now. The same goes for alot of valve products.
Sorry for the rant but I just don't see the atrocity or how they have gone down hill as a dev?
I stand corrected, by reputation I guess I should have said their reputation seems to have changed compared to how they treated their products beforehand. Not that it's diminishing cause they are still a widely known and respected studio.
That link I posted was merely to point out that other people, notably a writer at IGN, notice this change.
As a customer I do not expect them to do anything simply because I own one of their products, but I bought one of their products because of the customer service reputation they had before. Yes I understood they had a notorious relationship with release dates/deadlines. But I also knew they made quality products and had a history of great support post-production. That model seems to have changed. That is why I'm disappointed. That is my reason, it's how I feel....
I'm done with this topic
Like I said on the CoG forums: if Left 4 Dead was an incomplete game in your eyes, and you bought it with the expectation that future DLC would come free of charge, then at you.
If you didn't think that Left 4 Dead was worth buying and you didn't buy it, then I applaud you.
Valve provided a free demo with online co-op support. They handed out a free Survival update already for Xbox 360 and PC. They are offering more content for free for the PC (and cheaply for Xbox 360). They are developing a new cash cow (L4D2), but still churning out content for the previous game. I don't see what the uproar is.
I'm sure you are right about that, and I agree with all the points you made about that game dude.
If anyone here didn't already know by my posts or by playing with me I love Left 4 Dead.
do you wear L4D t-shirts everywhere you go? valve's marketing department needs to hire you
I want to get one of those shirts and I wish the would hire me lol.
I don't know no other game has given me the experience I have had with Left 4 Dead although I am hoping for something similar from Borderlands and I am hoping that ODST proves to bring something different to the table as far as halo is concerned.
Remember the uproar about the terrible Resident Evil 5 vs DLC? People complained RE 5 was an incomplete game. No one, not one person said that before it was announced. I am personally waiting to see what will happen when portal 2 comes out.
