Halo 3 Co-Op Night Recap

Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo August 21st, 2009 at 11:11 AM

Last night we had our first Halo 3 Co-Op night in over a year, and I think most of the staff can give it a resounding success.  We've uploaded some photos of the action, and posted some recounts from the staff members who played.

Did you join up?  Did you find some new friends thanks to our co-op night?  Did you have FUN?  If so let us know!

Marc:

Me and my youngest hooked up with a couple guys for some Legendary co-op.  The lag was pretty heinous, but it was fun.  After an hour and a half, I got my typical Halo headache, and passed the controller over to my oldest son.  Wish Halo 3 supported three players locally in campaign!

Mike:

The moment of the night for me was when I chucked a plasma grenade at a hammer-wielding Brute and one of our co-op partners ran right into it and got stuck.  The resultant "Did one of you guys stick me?!" was hilarious.  I  had to cut my time short, but I had a lot of fun.

Kat:

I would like to deem Halo 3 night a great success! After playing with about 3-4 different groups (with some shuffling in between) on Legendary, finding a few new skulls, and learning that there were a lot of achievements added on - I may be playing a bit more of this to come! Thanks to everyone I had the chance to play with, and my apologies if you were left out of  my groups (hopefully you found someone from the site to game with!)

Nick:

The Halo 3 co-op nights are pretty crazy, aside from trying to manage all the incoming messages and friend requests  - you need to try to PLAY the game.  Hopefully people that were ignored don't take it personally!  That being said we had a couple of great runs through various missions - though getting stuck on the double Scarabs was a biotch.  The group persevered though and managed to kill them after about 30 minutes.  There was plenty of "oh shit" moments, but my favorite had to be the aerial attack we had in the hornets.

my wife and i met up with baldy and SecretAsianNinja (Man... but he was a ninja last night). craziest moment was throwing a plasma grenade at the floor (accidentally) which bounced and stuck to a brute... in awe i forgot to step back and took some damage, thankfully not fatal.

also, we have a new name for baldy... geeky map reader

sorry for ignoring everyone's invites. we were packing for camping and eventually got around to halo at 9. we saw baldy in an open lobby right when we sat down.

I echo all of smurphster's sentiments. It was a great night and I got a TON of invites and friend requests, but couldn't answer them all. We're working on a GT to help resolve that issue though.

And yes, I was the self-professed obligatory geeky guy amongst the grizzled vets. My kill count was usually a fragment of everyone elses especially SAM who knocked out these guys before we were even in the room!!

Well, the kid and I tried, then I tried by myself, but the lag was just horrible (pretty sure it was from my internet connection). I did end up meeting a couple of new guys, and got to chat with Baldy and SecretAsianManz for a bit before I finally gave up.

Me and Bio hit up some meta-game playing... although didn't manage to get the achievements for some reason.

Highlights include: being attacked by two suicide grunts at the same time, of which one had the sticky I threw at him still on him. Needless to say, I was obliterated.

I tried, but there didn't seem to be any joinable games, so I played Shadow Complex instead.

Me being Aussie and all, I had problems finding any lag-free games.

As for Nick's double-Scarab woes, they're actually not that hard once you learn the trick to that particular fight (and Scarabs in general). Of the three Scarab encounters, the double-Scarab is actually easier than the two single-Scarab fights. A single Hornet can down them both within ten minutes on Legendary, plus whatever enemy air comes your way. Two Hornets? I've done under two minutes with my brothers.

I'll make a clip and upload it to my fileshare later this week, and you can see the "secret" then.

Of course the problem was the AI stole our hornets, and the checkpoint came RIGHT after that. So we didn't have the luxury of a hornet.

Hah, thats effed, I woulda shot there ass down.

ong_elvin at 09:59 PM on 8.22.2009
Oh, was that all it was? Ditching the replay then. But... how'd they steal the Hornets before you could get to them? That's like... well... retarded. xD

morris694 at 07:23 AM on 8.23.2009
ive played the cooop with my kids enough times to say that they steal the hornets some times and u end up in what u got or say u got there with

if you take too long to get to the hornets the marines jump back in. sometimes it glitches and doesn't give you a chance. i've noticed that in other spots of the game too. especially if you're already in a vehicle (you usually have a tank and warthog).

I never talk when I play online on COD. No one really says anything worth listening to, or no one talks whatsoever.
