Beyond Co-Op: Telltale Games Interview with Dave, Dominic, and Chris

Jason "OrigamiPanther" Love September 9th, 2009 at 4:35 PM

Dave Grossman, Dominic Armato, and Chris Schmidt

While at PAX, we had a chance to sit down not once, but TWICE with a few folks from Telltale Games to talk about their recent episodic release, Tales of Monkey Island, the lessons they've learned from previous releases, and what are some of their favorite co-op titles.  In the first interview we were joined by Dave Grossman, Design Director for Telltale; Dominic Armato, voice of "Guybrush Threepwood"; and Chris Schmidt, PR Manager.  All of them love playing and talking about games so much, we didn't want to leave anything out.  So we've included the complete audio from the interview, as well as pictures taken by Rob "mightbe" Schuster during the interview, after the break.

As mentioned earlier in the post, this is just the first of two interviews we had with Telltale.  In the second interview, which we'll post later this week, we sat down with Mark Darin, Designer/Programmer for Telltale Games and the director for Tales of Monkey Island Episode 2: The Siege of Spinner Cay.  So stay tuned to Co-Optimus for more from our trip to PAX 2009!

Can someone tell me what the deal is behind the rubber chicken pulley?

Like the pics, kind of like a storyboard of the interview. You could make a comic out of them, heh)

I'm thinking these guys will be hailed as adventure gaming's 'revival heroes'. My latest adventure game romp has been Kojima's Policenauts... I love it, but I've gotta get started on the original Monkey Island games.

"Can someone tell me what the deal is behind the rubber chicken pulley?"

It is a reference to a puzzle from The Secret of Monkey Island.

What, you can think of a more useful tool than a rubber chicken with a pulley in it?!

I need to get the new Monkey Island. The remake on XBLA was fantastic, I just think I want to wait until the full Tales series comes to a console rather than play it on the PC.

Glad you like the pictures.

As for the Telltale guys, they were constantly giving time to media folks from all over. Not only are they hard working, they're incredibly nice as well.

Great audio, may have to do again when I'm not busy. Seemed like it was pretty informal though

Need to try out the old Monkey Islands before I do the new ones.

I played the demo of Monkey Island SE on Xbox Live and decided to never buy it. Not that the game isn't great, just I've already played it and it's exactly the same but with NEW GRAPHICS! ZOMG!

Good interview. I will get the Monkey Island game sometime soon.

Good interview but how do these slightly funny people make such hilarious games, you need to interview the comedy genius.

I never talk when I play online on COD. No one really says anything worth listening to, or no one talks whatsoever.
Part of me wants to crop the second picture you took, and add text. Something simple, like "Oh geez. . ." It's got the perfect f
