Beyond Co-Op - March 17th through March 23rd, 2013

Race cars, lasers, aeroplaaaaanes!

It's the weekend! A time to relax, play games, and catch up on all that non-cooperative gaming news of the past week in Co-Optimus' Beyond Co-Op feature. This time around we've got a very exciting announcement for NES platformer fans, the Final Fantasy X remake gets an added bonus on the PS3, and Supergiant Games is back in action with their newest title, Transistor. All in all, some very exciting news this week with perhaps even more to be revealed as PAX East 2013 is just getting underway.

- It's a Duck Blur: Ducktales Remastered this Summer
- Final Fantasy X-2 to be Packaged with Final Fantasy X HD for PS3
- Supergiant Games' Next Game will be Sci-Fi Action RPG Transistor

It's a Duck Blur: Ducktales Remastered this Summer

Between that headline and the teaser trailer, I really shouldn't have to say anything else. It's an HD remake of one of the (for me at any rate) greatest platformers of all time, Ducktales for the NES. I still remember playing through the whole thing at least four times at my friend's house... In one day, mind you. The "Moon Theme" is his ringtone on my phone. Is it summer yet?!?!?!

Ok, so if you still need some more convincing, there's a little more than just a polishing up of all the sprites. Developer Wayforward, responsible for Contra 4 on the DS and the recent Double Dragon: Neon, are doing hand-drawn animation for all the characters and they're bringing back all of the surviving voice talent for the game, including Scrooge McDuck himself, Alan Young. No firm release date for the game just yet, but it will be available on XBLA, PSN, and WiiU.

Now sing along! "Life is like a hurricaaaannneee..."

Final Fantasy X-2 to be Packaged with Final Fantasy X HD for PS3

It was announced at TGS 2011 that an HD remake of Final Fantasy X, the game that really put sports minigames on the map, would be headed to the PS3 and Vita. It's now been revealed, via a little post in Japanese magazine Jump, that the PS3 version of the game will also include the semi-sequel, Final Fantasy X-2. A nice added bonus for Sony fans out there, though Vita owners aren't quite so lucky as they'll have to buy the two games separately. Both games are based on the "International Edition" version, which I'm told is a good thing as it includes some bonus content that wasn't seen in either game's U.S. release.

Supergiant Games' Next Game will be Sci-Fi Action RPG, Transistor

Supergiant Games practically exploded onto the gaming scene nearly three years ago during XBLA's "Summer of Arcade" with their action RPG, Bastion. The game executed the whole story-telling narrative in a slightly different way by having an actual narrator follow the travels of "The Kid" as he tracked down what happened to a broken world. Now, it looks like they're getting ready to do their first follow-up to that incredible act with the science fiction themed, Transistor. Players will be placed into the shoes of a young woman who's had an incredible weapon thrust upon her, putting her under the spotlight of some not so friendly looking robots. There's no firm release date for the game, or specified platforms, just the teaser of "early 2014."

It's fine, I'll have Ducktales to play.
