Now Running Smooth As Hell

DOOM and DOOM 2 Re-Releases Received Quality Of Life Updates

If you’ve been waiting for an update to your favorite Hell-ravaging shooter from the 1990’s, now is your time! Whether you prefer 1993 original DOOM or its 1994 sequel, DOOM II, both games have been re-released on modern consoles and received a new quality-of-life update that brings the framerate up to a smooth, modern 60 frames per second (FPS). Along with this aesthetic change, the update has brought the ability to quick save your progress and play community-created content and add-ons. This content is available now wherever you own the DOOM and DOOM II re-releases.

Two decades in the making. Kind of.

John Romero Releases New DOOM Map

He's had a long and impressive career in game development, but John Romero's name will always be associated with a cluster of old school titles centering around DOOM, Wolfenstein 3D, and Quake. Ok, and Daikatana, but we're all trying to forget about that one. Now, some 21 years after his last design, Romero has released a new map for DOOM And you know what? It's pretty darn good.

Doom Pulled from XBLA, Will be Back Soon

One thing that's become increasingly apparent in today's age of digital downloads - they can disappear at anytime.  Most times this happens because of expiring contracts between content providers.  Such is the case with DOOM on Xbox Live Arcade.  The game was originally released before Zenimax Media actually owned id Software.Once that contract expired there was no place for your money to go when purchased, so the game has been pulled.

Co-Op Classics: DOOM

For the past few Co-Op Classics columns, I've been trying to hit some of the key co-op games of the past.  Double Dragon and the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade game are on most people's list of classics.  Today, we move on to what many consider to be the most influential game ever.  This game spawned hundreds of clones, and almost singlehandedly birthed an entire game genre, the first person shooter.  A technical marvel, a violent, intense atmosphere, awesome level design and downright scary foes, all wrapped up in a co-op package, make DOOM one of the greatest co-op games of all time.
