Great Moments in Co-Op: Getting the Junker in Gears of WarDecember 08th, 2008 at 10:32 PM by Blake "broodax" Corner

As you might be noticing, you are reading an article…by me…on a Monday. Well, today marks the debut of “Great Moments in Co-Op,” a sort of bite-sized article that will be featured every Monday. This article will not be as long as other articles, partially because like most of you, I don’t function well on Mondays. So, we have a nice little article that will make your case of the Mondays hopefully go away. Also, take note, there will be spoilers in most of these articles, but normally they are from the first half of games. So read on at your own risk.

Get Those Gears Achievements NowAugust 03rd, 2008 at 8:51 AM by Marc "DjinniMan" Allie

We know you're probably looking forward to the release of Gears of War 2 this November.  However, it looks like you may want to pop in the original for a bit and make sure you've got all those achievements.  Joystiq gives us some information from the recent Comic-Con, straight from Cliff Bleszinski.  He announced that earning achievements from Gears 1 will unlock certain features in Gears 2, like extra playable characters, for example.  At this time, it is unknown which achievements he is referring to.  You may just want to get as many as possible in the meantime.  Personally, I think this is a pretty neat little bonus for those who have played the first game, though I certainly hope there's an alternate way to get these same features unlocked.

Another tidbit that was dropped was a limited edition Lancer bundle, which would include a replica of the famous Gears weapon.  Microsoft has since declared that the bundle is not from them, so it must be a retailer exclusive, and most likely Amazon.com.  We hope to have more information about this soon, so you can have a chainsaw gun for your every own!!

This Week In Co-Op: Gears of WarJuly 02nd, 2008 at 5:15 PM by Blake "broodax" Corner

Well, we are only a few days from our 4th of July-themed Gears of War gaming extravaganza, so I found it fitting to play some Gears. I haven't played the game in a while, but I've always had fond memories of the game. So, when I booted up the game and played some co-op, I had some expectations. I wasn't disappointed; the game holds up well, particularly in co-op. Sometimes co-op games just tack in an extra player (like one of my favorite series, Halo), but Gears manages to make that extra player feel real and natural, and makes the gaming experience more believable. So, with these things in mind, I explored the game's campaign, teammate in tow.

This week we are going to have special co-op night with the help of the folks at Microsoft.  They are launching the Live, Liberty and Pursuit of Gamerscore promotion to celebrate the 4th of July in the United States.  And what better way to celebrate than to take out some Locust scum with your buddy in Gears of War!

Everyone here at Co-Optimus loves a good discount, particularly when the discount involves a fun co-op game. Well, we are in luck, because Gears of War is getting a price drop. The Xbox 360 version of the game is dropping to $39.99, and the Windows version of the game is dropping to $29.99. However, that's not all. Gamerscore Blog, who were kind enough to officially reveal the the price drop, has released more information. In particular? A two-disk version of Gears of War. Press release after the break.
