Serious Sam HD Out Next WeekNovember 20th, 2009 at 8:42 AM by Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo

We finally have a release date for Serious Sam HD, or at least, a release date for the PC version.  Expect to kick names and take ass on November 24th with up to 15 of your friends in co-op.  This was announced in an exclusive trailer posted on Eurogamer's website.

You can read our short hands on preview with the game from PAX 09.  We came away impressed, and are itching to dive into the chaos with one of the largest and most insane co-op gatherings I've ever witnessed.  There's going to be a lot of exploding harpies.

You can preorder the game right now on Steam for only $18.  There's still no word on whether or not the XBLA version, which contains four player co-op, would be released the following day on November 25th.

Serious Sam HD has Gone Gold on the PCNovember 04th, 2009 at 8:44 AM by Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo

Devolver Digital's Twitter account has announced that Serious Sam HD has gone gooooooooold for the PC.  The PC version of the game is going to have "at least" 16 player co-op play throughout the game.

The remake of the classic game is done in Croteam's new Serious Engine 3.0 and will also be available on the Xbox Live Arcade about the same time as the PC release.  Sadly the Xbox version will only support four players.  At least it still has sunshine and lollipops though...right?

Serious Sam HD is Full of Sunshine and LollipopsOctober 07th, 2009 at 8:55 AM by Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo

Sure Serious Sam is all about kicking ass and taking names in the name of ass kickery.  Normally Sam likes to blow his enemies into tiny bloody bits, generally making a red mess wherever he goes, and a wake of destruction behind him.

But Serious Sam HD isn't all serious, no sir-ree.  In the Super Happy Fun Time mode of the game you can disable the blood and instead of enemies explode in bunches of confetti, candy, and flowers!   Suddenly yesterday's M rated title is tomorrow's kid friendly co-op game.

Mortals Inadequate to Gaze Upon New Serious Sam HD TrailerAugust 27th, 2009 at 9:34 AM by Marc "DjinniMan" Allie

Their eyes melted from the awesome-ity of the trailer!

I was already fairly excited about the upcoming over-the-top shooter remake Serious Sam HD.  That's before I watched the new trailer.  Now, the rest of my life pales in significance compared to Serious Sam HD.  I am planning to rob a hardware store for the parts to build a time machine tonight.  Once the machine is built, I can travel to the future, September 9, to be exact, so I can start playing Serious Sam HD.  Watch the trailer at your own peril, unless you plan to become a time traveler as well.

You're gonna need help with these Harpies!

If you're looking for a variety of weapons, enemies, and awesomeness with a dash of co-op, Serious Sam HD is where you need to be. Seriously. The latest Serious Sam HD trailer has an epic soundtrack that almost seems ironic given the style of humor associated with Serious Sam, while still complementing the visuals and gameplay shown very nicely. We also get a glimpse at the various weapons and enemies of the game, and an idea of how smooth this FPS is going to glide when you finally get your hands on it!

Serious Sam HD Comparison Shots Show the Age of GraphicsAugust 10th, 2009 at 2:43 PM by Nicholas "bapenguin" Puleo

Sometimes we forget just how far a game and its graphics have come.  When Serious Sam was launched in 2001 it looked amazing for its time.  While eight years might not seem THAT long ago, in computer graphics terms thats like uncovering a piece of Renaissance art in your back yard.

IGN has some exclusive shots of the upcoming Serious Sam HD remake for Xbox Live and PC, and the differences are quite amazing.  The new game is built on the Serious Engine 3.0, Croteam's upcoming graphical workhorse that will power their next gen Serious Sam game.  If this is what developers can do with an arcade style remake, imagine what they can do with a full blown production and budget!

CDV has released a fresh batch of screenshots for Serious Sam HD, which comes out on the Xbox Live Arcade and PC this fall.  They've also released the box art for the game, which might just be, some of the greatest box art ever created.  The co-op friendly game is a remake of the original Serious Sam game which was developed by Croteam.

Also a friendly reminder - today is the last day in our Serious Sam Contest!  All we need from you is one line of dialogue, and if chosen, you could win 1600 MS Points.

Show me whatcha got!

Remember the Twitter Contest, where you could write an in-game one-liner for Serious Sam HD? Well, now we have a contest of our own to help support the starving artist that is Sam.

John J. Dick, the voice of Serious Sam, is in a bit of a financial pickle. He's offered to record a line or phrase of your choice for a small fee. Here at Co-optimus, we want to help him out, while finding a special-edition way to introduce the Co-opticast (Podcast). But, we need your help!

Serious Sam 3 Will "Leave the Cartoony Look Behind"July 21st, 2009 at 1:31 PM by Marc "DjinniMan" Allie

Why so Serious, Sam?

The original Serious Sam is a really good co-op title, and we are quite fond of it.  When the HD remake of the game was announced, there was much hooping and hollering here at Co-Optimus HQ.  Serious Sam 3 is currently in development, and considering the winning combination of humor, over the top carnage, and a unique art style in previous games, we've been keeping a close eye on it.

It appears that at least one aspect of the series will be tweaked for the third game: the cartoony look is getting the axe.  Croteam's Roman Ribaric explains.

"I believe Serious Sam fans would want to hear the following two things. First, Serious Sam 3 will play like the original Serious Sam. And second, we'll leave the cartoony look behind."

I'm glad that SS3 will play like the first, that much is certain.  But why drop the cartoony art style?  The enemy designs in particular were very impressive and still memorable these many years later.  Do we really want headless kamikaze bombers in a realistic art style?  Serious Sam without these elements is like Transformers that don't transform, or NFL teams that don't play football.  *rimshot*
