Diablo 3 on the console holds a lot of surprises. It's more than just a quick control scheme adaptation of the PC game released just over a year ago. Instead it's a finely tuned Action/RPG for fans with some great co-op features.
We now know that Diablo 3 will be hitting consoles on Sept. 3, and that the game will support local, online, and combo co-op. While we've heard some mention of the latter, we have yet to see it in action... until now. From their command console at E3 [Ed. Note: I'm assuming they have a command console], Blizzard has released a slew of screens of the game running on the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3. They've also released a video that shows off friends playing together, whether they're local, online, or both!
After months and months of rumors, Blizzard finally confirmed Diablo 3 would be heading to consoles - with its announcement at Sony's PlayStation 4 reveal. Today Blizzard has confirmed the game will be out on Microsoft's Xbox 360 along with the PlayStation 3 version on September 3rd.
While there is quite a bit of buzz in the air today for Microsoft's big reveal of the next Xbox, Sony is working on putting out as much information as possible to get folks excited for the PlayStation 4. This includes discussion of the console port of the popular action-RPG, Diablo 3, which recently celebrated a year anniversary since it first saw release on the PC. A console port of the game seemed highly unlikely at first, despite the great deal of speculation, but along with the announcement of the PS4 came the bit of news that had thousands across the internet shouting "I KNEW IT!" This was immediately followed by a thousand more cynical statements of, "psh, it'll never work. PC MASTER RACE!"
Good news for defenders of Sanctuary. To help celebrate the one year anniversary of Diablo 3, Blizzard is offering an in-game buff to players. If you log on to play Diablo 3 between May 15 and May 21, you will receive a 25 percent buff to both magic find and experience gain stats. The developer states; "The buff is only available while logged in to the game, but it will apply to all characters as well as stack with other similar bonuses -- the EXP bonus will stack multiplicatively and the Magic Find bonus will stack above the 300% cap."
The latest Diablo 3 patch for PC has been released, and with it comes a great boon to cooperative players. The latest patch brings the game up to version 1.0.8, and adds a host of changes to both the single player and cooperative aspects of the game. The biggest news is that playing with a group of people is now the most effective way to earn better rewards. Players that adventure together will earn an extra 10% to their Magic Find, Gold Find, and Experience gains for each additional player in the game, up to a max of 30%.
When word came around that Blizzard would be releasing Diablo 3 for the PS3 and PS4, most of us were stunned. It had been a long time since Blizzard has announced anything regarding the console platforms. But they did just that at the Playstation 4 reveal earlier this year. From a game that has garnered polarizing coverage, yet soared in terms of sales, it looks like the console version of Diablo 3 may turn out to be a wonderful cooperative experience. Tally went hands on with Diablo 3 on the PS3 at PAX East, and was rather impressed.
This past weekend at PAX East 2013, I had a chance to try out the PS3 version of Diablo 3, complete with a reworked interface and new console-specific features. I’m pretty familiar with the PC version of Diablo 3, having capped out my monk and making it all the way through the second act of Inferno. Due to a myriad of factors, however, I haven’t touched the game since a couple months after the PC version released. I picked up the PS3 version of Diablo 3 expecting to be met with the same feeling of semi-apathy that I currently feel for the PC version of the game. To my complete shock, however, I came away quite impressed.
With all this talk about Diablo 3’s PlayStation 4 future, we’d think most would like to hear about what’s not so far off in the distance instead. As we are told by Blizzard, fans will be happy to know that co-op specific improvements will be arriving to Diablo 3 in its upcoming patch.
To everyone's surprise during the big PS4 reveal last week, Blizzard graced the audience with their presence. Many of us sat and gazed in wonder, and if they were anything like me, were praying for some sort of reboot of Blackthorne. What we did get was what pretty much anyone could have expected - a port of Diablo 3 to the PS3 and the PS4. In a previous article, we covered the fact that the console versions of Diablo 3 will be playable with up to four players both offline and online.
Did anyone catch that PlayStation 4 press conference yesterday? Yeah, me too. Amid all the tech specs, controller reveals, dancing puppets, and invisible consoles, Blizzard showed up and made a pretty cool announcement: Diablo 3 is coming to the PlayStation 4. It's also coming to the PlayStation 3, which is far more affordable for me, seeing as I already have one of those.
Sony officially unveiled the PlayStation 4 yesterday at an event in NYC. While the actual console wasn't on display, we did get to see the brand new Dual Shock 4 controller, plenty of games, and a look at a brand new interface and infrastructure that focuses on video streaming technologies and social interactions.
Sometimes, we as people need to see vampires and werewolves being taken out with a good old fashion pistol or a kickass magic spell. We wish this was the crappy Hugh Jackman movie we’re talking about here, but fortunately for us, it’s a co-op video game instead! Indie developer Neocore Games’ upcoming title: The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing, allows the player to explore the tale of a young supernatural hunter, Van Helsing, in his rise to legend.
It’s no big secret the Blizzard Entertainment has been attempting a console version of Diablo 3 for practically a year now. Those that are behind this undertaking at Blizzard spoke up a bit on it's progress, and revealed that a working console rendition has been made, but isn’t anywhere near retail.
Everyone is happy over at Blizzard HQ. The sun is shining, birds are singing, the rainbows are out. And their game, Diablo 3, just sold 10 million copies in less than 6 months. Holy moly.
