Beyond Co-Op, March 1st to March 7th

The stories for this week:

- Ubisoft Yanks I am Alive from Darkworks, Goes Internal

- BioShock 2 Teaser Site Opens

- N'Gai Croal Leaves Newsweek

- A Boy and His Blob Being Remade on Wii

- Resident Evil 5 and Mad World This Week

Ubisoft Yanks I am Alive from Darkworks, Goes Internal

Relatively big news once word came out that Ubisoft’s upcoming I am Alive was being moved into a 2010 release window. This game was supposed to be out early this year, but problems have evidently crept up and Ubisoft has pulled the game from Darkworks and moved it internally to Ubisoft Shanghai. Whether that is good or not is totally up to interpretation (many think Shanghai doesn’t make good games).

I am Alive is an interesting concept for a game. Chicago has a massive earthquake and you are left to survive in the aftermath. This was also the game once rumored to be under Jade Raymond’s hands, but it is obvious she was never connected to it and is probably working on the sequel to Assassin’s Creed currently being worked on.

BioShock 2 Teaser Site Opens

Take Two has unveiled the new BioShock 2: Sea of Dreams teaser site found at this address: http://www.somethingatsea.com. So far all we know is the notes have 1967 as a year. Outside of that we know nothing other than the game will supposedly be out before the end of the year.

N'Gai Croal Leaves Newsweek

Relatively big news here as well. N’Gai Croal announced that he is leaving Newsweek and going in some direction, possibly game consulting. It is sad he is leaving gaming journalism, but then again you have to wonder if his Resident Evil 5 related racial piece (and the backlash on it) had to do with his taking the second round of severance offerings from Newsweek in the fall or not. Croal was probably the most mainstream of gaming journalists since he was working for a rather large magazine in Newsweek. Once again, he will be missed and it should be interesting to see what he does from here.

A Boy and His Blob Being Remade on Wii

Much like Punch Out!!! in last week’s Beyond Co-Op, it was announced that Majesco would be producing a remake of the old NES game A Boy and His Blob for the Wii and so far the screens shown have been awesome. The game is scheduled to come out later this year and you can see the screens that have been released here.

Resident Evil 5 and Mad World This Week

Yeah, some small game called Resident Evil 5 comes out on Friday the 13th (although many places are already selling it evidently). I loved Resident Evil 4 and it was really the first game in the series I actually enjoyed. I’m not sure what to make of #5 as of yet because evidently the demo is not a representation of the final game. The other game coming out is Mad World, a violent black and white game with red blood all over. This game is notable because it is created by the team behind Capcom’s closed Clover studio that created Viewtiful Joe and Okami. This game could be a huge surprise.
