'Llamasoft: the Jeff Minter Story' Arrives on Consoles and PC, Includes Llamas and Co-op

Play three co-op classics and many more titles from Jeff Minter in this informative retro collection.

Jeff Minter is known for his love of llamas and also his creation of the Tempest video game series. Now, thanks to the preservation efforts of Digital Eclipse, players can experience a huge volume of Minter's work via Llamasoft: the Jeff Minter Story. This retro collection features 42 classic games, hours of documentary material, and much more. Luckily for us, four of the included games have 2-player local co-op!

Llamasoft: The Jeff Minter Story includes:

  • The acclaimed originals. Play all the Minter classics you've heard of (and several you probably haven't) -- Sheep In Space, Andes Attack, Attack of the Mutant Camels, Matrix, Metagalactic Llamas Battle at the Edge of Time, Hellgate, Laser Zone, and many more -- now with new quality-of-life features that make them more fun than ever before.
     
  • Gridrunner: Remastered. Digital Eclipse has updated Jeff's signature shooter masterpiece with thrilling modern graphics and sound, while still running the core of the Commodore 64 version for 100-percent gameplay accuracy.
     
  • Light synthesizers. Explore two of Jeff Minter's earliest light synthesizers, Psychedelia and Colourspace, with all-new options and features optimized for controller-based play.

Llamasoft The Jeff Minter Story Tempest 2000

As for co-op support, these games have local cooperative multiplayer:

  • Laser Zone: The second turret can be controlled by Player 2.
  • Llamatron: 2112: In Team Mode, you are joined by a friend who happens to be a camel. You work together to get the beasties and trash the opposition. You share a common score and lives.
  • Revenge of the Mutant Camels: The first player controls the mutant camel and the second player controls the goat-man.
  • Tempest 2000: Team up with a friend in Tempest Plus-mode.

This game is the second title in Digital Eclipse's Gold Masters series. The first game, The Making of Karateka, is also available on consoles and PC. Having played it, I find it to be a very impressive collection and historical resource. Llamasoft: The Jeff Minter Story will surely be just as informative and fun.
