Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons is one of the finest beat 'em ups in recent years. What's more, the game has continued to improve over time thanks to updates that added online co-op and new playable characters. Those enhancements won't be stopping any time soon, it turns out. This week, two new playable characters joined the game, and six more are planned for later in the year.
The new fighters must be unlocked with in-game currency. Here are their official descriptions:
- JEFF: A childhood rival of the Lee brothers, Jeff trained alongside them in the martial art S%u014Dsetsuken. But as his skills lagged behind, jealousy grew. Determined to surpass Billy and Jimmy, Jeff abandoned his noble path and embraced the streets, merging Karate with S%u014Dsetsuken to develop a dangerous, unpredictable fighting style.
- ABORE: A massive ex-soldier with a stoic demeanor, Abore fights with raw power and unwavering calm. His incredible strength and resilience have led some to wonder: is he a man, or something more? The quiet brawler offers no answers, only crushing blows.
Jeff appeared as a regular enemy in the first Double Dragon, and Abore debuted in Double Dragon II: The Revenge. The roster of playable characters is now 14. When the remaining 6 characters (!) are added, the total will be 20. That's a lot of Double Dragon fighters! Gaiden supports 2-player local and online co-op.
