Saints Row: The Third Requires an Online Pass for Co-Op, Including System Link Co-Op!

It should come as a shock to NO ONE that Saints Row: The Third will require an online pass for online co-operative play.  The above image is from my review copy.  I didn't bother blurring out the code, because, well, I already used it.  Here's the kicker: you can't play via system link without an online pass code!  I tried it out with my other Xbox 360, and it wouldn't let me access any of the co-op features, via online or system link, without a code.  What a kick in the teeth.

There you have it: no online pass means no online play, no system link, no campaign co-op, and no co-op Whored Mode.  You can see a full image of the required steps for redeeming your code after the break.

Gotta love step four.  Looks like THQ is the one "strapping it on," because they're screwing potential used game buyers as well as anyone thinking about renting the game.  Of course, you can always pay for a new code.  Here's a little heads up:  Any game published by THQ will most likely require some sort of online pass in the foreseeable future.  Expect the same from most other publishers.  That's just the way it's going to work from now on.  The industry has made itself clear: get used to it, or get a new hobby.  Sound off in the comments section, and let us know what you think!

Saints Row: The Third will be out on November 15th for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.  It supports two player online co-op, as long as you have an online pass.
