PC Version of GTA IV Riddled With Bugs

So far, we haven't seen any prominent complaints in our forums about the PC version of Grand Theft Auto IV, released December 2nd. Arguably, most of our users are console gamers; so this isn't much of a surprise, considering that the console versions have been on the market for months already.

However, Giant Bomb is reporting that the recent release is seeing a ton of bugs, some even rendering the game unplayable.

Jeff Gerstmann says:

I'm in the frame rate boat, as the game seems to run OK after I downloaded it off of Steam last week. I mean, the menu displays, I can launch the game, and sort of play it. But the minute I get into a car, the frame rate goes all poopy.

In the midst of all this, Voodoo Extreme posted a report they received from someone who managed to get his money back after purchasing the game on Steam. That's not exactly common, as I understand it, and makes it sound like the company is trying to salvage a bad situation.

I'll probably wait for a patch before I go back in and get some of those PC achievement points, but I think the safest thing to do is to just avoid picking the game up until a few patches are released.

So if you're one of those plagued by a shoddy port of GTA IV that was downloaded from Steam, you may be able to reconcile your hard-earned and easily-spent money.

It's good to know that where Rockstar dropped the ball, Steam is picking it up and scoring points. Eventually, though, it would be optimal to see Rockstar fix their mistakes and give everyone the holiday gift of a working product.
