Hammerwatch has been quietly upgrading itself since its release in August 2013. A few patches have fixed some minor technical issues, added features to the editor, tinkered with character abilities, and added two brand new classes to play. Guess it's time to go shoot worm larvae again!
Last night Mike and Nick streamed some Hammerwatch, the four player co-op dungeon crawler that bears a lot of resemblance to the classic game Gauntlet. What started out as an intended 20 minute romp to celebrate Co-Optimus's 6th birthday, ended up lasting almost an hour and a half as they descended deeper and deeper into the dungeon.
Hammerwatch is a tough game. Even with three levels of difficulty, customizable gameplay modifiers, and four talented players at the helm of four unique character classes, you'll get no quarter from this retro-styled arcade RPG....
Some of us are playing games this weekend. Others are doing things like moving and wedding stuff. I think we all know who got the better deal.
Fans of classic hack and slash buddy games like Gauntlet would be wise to keep their eyes on Hammerwatch. The pretty-as-a-pixel fantasy game features four character classes, a top-down perspective, hordes of enemies, and four player co-op.
It's co-op dungeon fighting time! Jochum Skoglund and Niklas Myrberg's Gauntlet-inspired Hammerwatch is still under heavy development, but the duo has already released a demo to make sure we stay excited. The teaser includes the entire first act of the game, complete with secrets, money, shops, a bonus level and a boss. Three of the four classes are currently playable, and co-op play for up to four players (online, local or LAN) is ready to roll.
While watching hammers might be an exciting hobby, indie dev team Jochum Skoglund and Niklas Myrberg have something a bit more flashy in mind with their upcoming title. Hammerwatch is inspired by classic arcade games such as Gauntlet, providing players with dungeons to crawl through, multiple character classes, and swarms of enemies to crush. The best news is that in addition to single player mode, Hammerwatch will support online, local and LAN-based co-op games for up to four people!
