Resistance 2 Patch Available, Split Screen Fix Incoming

Insomniac has just released a new patch for the 8 player co-op shooter Resistance 2. The patch is version 1.40 and it should be available by the time you read this. What does it fix? Lots of stuff, but the most important being the restoration of any character resets you may have had. Some folks have reported issues with level progression and found their character data reset to level 1. The good news is this patch should not only restore your previous character state, but tack on any progression you've gained since. So your level 20 medic for co-op that should have been a level 40 medic will really be a level 40! Very nice!
There's only a few fixes specific to co-op, mostly XP balancing. There is some good news though - remember the complaints about the second player not being able to save their progress in co-op split screen? Well it looks like a fix may be on the way for that as well. According to Insomniac it was a problem with the PS3 firmware. Firmware...really? Whoever or whatever is to blame for the problem, it sucked and needs to be fixed! It's good to see the developer stepping up to the plate here.

One thing this patch does that isn't mentioned in the notes is that it allows your split screen partner to start at whatever level you have already unlocked for the class they are playing as.
For example, if I have the special ops class built up to level 10, when my split screen partner chooses special ops, they will be at level 10 instead of having to start at level 0 every time you play. This is a HUGE improvement over how it was before. Now, it still does not save their progress, so the next time you turn off and restart your game, they will be back to wherever your current level is. But this is dramatically better than how it was originally. At least now, you can take a bit of comfort knowing that whatever happens for player one is at least going to help player two.
It will be even better when the fix comes that they are working on. Then you will be able to have two PSN accounts logged in and saving stats separately.
Also, I have to say that having the stalkers move makes battling them much more interesting.
This patch really did improve a lot of things!
