Portal 2 Reveal is Co-op Friendly

News
Twitter facebook googlebuzz

When Portal was new, gamers were in love. Creative quirky gameplay with challenging puzzles that had more than enough action to keep us entertained, Portal had the perfect formula. Well, the sequel took that formula, and went back to the drawing board to add Co-op to the title. That's right, we can now play Valve's hit game, Portal together.

Gameinformer.com revealed the two-player co-op Portal 2 with their upcoming ultra-secret title reveal. They share the information that the game will be released at full retail price at more than just a few hours of quality gameplay. The only other detail we get is that GLaDOS is somehow tied in with the story. We simply cannot wait to read the full 12 page story in their April issue of Gameinformer Magazine.

Until then, Gameinformer.com has created a hub of Portal 2 info to keep us occupied until we figure out which gaming systems will experience this sequel, and what we can expect to see from Aperture Science this time around.

OMG PORTAL CO-OP!

when i saw that portal 2 was announced i was going to make a smart-ass joke about hoping there's co-op. it seems too good to be true. someone pinch me.

give me split screen on the 360 and i will buy it. honestly, i can't see playing this online. "where do you want this portal? here? oh there? right over this death machine?"

When you'll need super-duper reflexes, then there's your partner who needs super-duper reflexes too. And when you thought nothing can go wrong, your partner makes a portal into a death trap. Yay!
Looking forward for this (for the Co-op part, not for the death trap lol)

Sort of related, but I think people are going to hate this game. It's in a lose lose situation. The first one was loved because it was original and the suprise of it's dark humour. With people knowing what to expect, I doubt people will be as suprised as before.

Or it could only be better. I mean it's not like Portal 2 will release a year after the original...

I'm both happy and extremely worried. Similar to what Sabre said, I absolutely loved the first game for its atmosphere. And no developer can accomodate co-op and keep atmosphere how they want it; they can try and be serious or dark or whatever, but my friends and I are still going to make jokes and run around like idiots.

That said, I'm happy to see that they'll be attempting something that I honestly believed to be impossible in Portal. We'll have to see how this pans out -- it will either be a decent surprise, or a flop. My own opinion leads me to believe it won't be a huge success, though.

Sounds to me like it's a separate co-op campaign to the single player. Which is good news for all.

it almost has to be. think of how many times you had to shoot a portal while you're jumping in the first one. that wouldn't work with two people. on the other hand, some tasks would be way to simple for two people while being very difficult for one. i guess we'll have to see what they come up with.

I wonder if both players will have their own pair of portal guns, or if it will be like, one player has the orange and the other player has the blue...

Will be interesting to see how they do it.

I imagine that the main game will be like before and some extra scenarios will be thrown in to make some co-op modes. I don't mind this as the first game was one of the best solo experiences around. I can imagine myself trapped in some infinite loop as a joke by my co-op pal!

I can't imagine you'd need any help get trapped in an infinite loop
