Earlier this year, PQube and developer Inti creates released a Castlevania-style action platformer called Grim Guardians: Demon Purge. Fast-forwarding to today, the title of the game has now changed to Gal Guardians: Demon Purge. There’s something you don’t see every day! Gal Guardians is available on PlayStation, Switch, and Steam, and will also be coming to Xbox in the near future.
Title changes don’t happen very often in games. The reason for this one is that Outer Dawn, a New Zealand-based game developer, has a mobile game called GrimGuard Tactics. While that mobile game has nothing to do with Grim Guardians, Outer Dawn issued a complaint because the studio felt that the two titles were too similar. The new title, Gal Guardians, is appropriate given that Gal Guardians is a spin-off of the Gal*Gun series of rail shooters.
The newly-named Gal Guardians is a 2D action platformer in the style of Castlevania III and Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon 2. The story follows two sisters, Shinobu and Maya Kamizono, whose school has been taken over by demons. The sisters must work together to find the source of the invasion and save their school. When playing alone, solo gamers can switch back and forth between the two sisters in order to use their unique weapons and abilities. Drop in, drop out local co-op allows both sisters to fight alongside each other. Options include English and Japanese voiceovers and three difficulty settings.

Gal Guardians: Demon Purge is now available digitally on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Steam. The Switch version has been temporarily delisted, seemingly to allow the title to be changed. Physical versions can be preordered for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Switch, with an April 28 release date. An Xbox version has been announced but has no specific release date yet.
