Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics debuted on most platforms last year, followed by an Xbox release this year. Right out of the gate, it was a really impressive collection, hence the high rating in our Co-op Review. Still, it seems that the collection had some room for improvement. This week's update adds local versus modes to each fighting game, graphical enhancements for Marvel vs. Capcom 2, new artwork and music, and more.
Here are the official changes:
X-MEN VS. STREET FIGHTER
Choose between versions 960910, 961004, and 961023
MARVEL vs. CAPCOM 2 New Age of Heroes
Change resolution & increase graphics quality
MARVEL vs. CAPCOM Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics
Versus mode available on all fighting titles
Menus can now be accessed with a long press while online to avoid accidental inputs during intense matches
Reset the game directly from the pause menu
New artwork from Capcom artist Shinkiro
New Cap-Jams remixes
*Above changes also coming to Capcom Fighting Collection & Capcom Fighting Collection 2
The addition of versus mode support is definitely welcome. As for the increased graphics quality in Marvel vs. Capcom 2, the option can be found in the Display & Sound Settings menu while playing the game. Change the "Internal Resolution" setting from "Original" to "2x" for sharper 3D backgrounds. The 2X option is not a massive difference, but every little bit helps. The four new music tracks can be found in the main "Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics" music gallery. One of the new songs is a remix of Captain Commando's theme!
By the way, the Xbox version might have come along 6 months after the other versions, but it runs beautifully. Xbox players now have the chance to bust heads cooperatively in The Punisher and/or fight one-on-one in the collections impressive lineup of fighting games. The only things we really wish for now are cross-play and the addition of extra save states (all versions of the collection offer one measly save state).
Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics sells for $49.99 on Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, and Steam. The Steam version is Steam Deck compatible.
